Rob Lowe's Big Career Shift! Will He Succeed At Being A Studio Exec??

roblowejuly1e__opt.jpg

This is a huge transition for him! We wonder how he'll fare!

As we've reported, Rob Lowe is branching off from him usual acting ventures to become a "creative partner" at the recently sold Miramax Films!

Lowe says in a statement:

"The acquisition of a classic brand like Miramax is an exciting first step in my partnership with Tom Barrack and Colony Capital. This represents an exciting new chapter for me."

Last week, Disney finalized the deal to sell the company to Tom Barrack and Ronald Tutor of Filmyard Holding, and many have been wondering how the former Brat Pack and Brothers & Sisters star would fit into the equation, and if he has a place with the studio bigwigs!

Producer Nathan Folks seems to think so, and says:

“As a long-time actor, Lowe knows what is crucial in making the difference between a film being ‘superb’ versus just ‘good.' Thus, an actor develops great insight from being where ‘the rubber hits the road’ because he takes into account the production and direction culminated over the years into a final product. Rob will make a great asset to Miramax.”

Matt Atchity of RottenTomatoes.com agrees:

“In the beginning, it’s going to be a lot of introductions with the people he’s working with and the people he knows, trying to get projects started. It’ll be along the lines of introducing writers and producers he knows to directors he knows and vice versa, and just getting people in rooms together and brainstorming."

“He might be reading scripts, or he might be going down to sets. It doesn’t sound like he will be giving up acting so I can’t imagine he will be a steady fixture on sets, but by the same token, he has worked for over 30 years in the industry and he has experience as a successful actor and knows what’s going on, on both television and movie sets. He easily could be down on the set to make sure things are happening correctly.”

Inneresting!

What do U think?? Is Rob's experience as an actor going to help him or is he completely out of his league??

Douchebag Diva Director David O. Russell Quits His Own Movie!

ap040928013313-1jb.jpg

David O. Russell had another temper tantrum?!

How shocking and completely unexpected!

LOLs! Fucking diva.

The notoriously difficult director has been attempting to finish the film Nailed - which legitimately sounds like an inspired piece of filmmaking, mainly because it involves Jessica Biel getting shot in the head with a nail gun - but due to financial problems and production snags, it has been sitting on the shelf incomplete since 2008.

We've now learned that after one-on-one negotiations fell apart with financier Ronald Tutor, Russell has walked away from the project, and it will be completed by someone else!

Russell says:

"This has been a painful process for me. The multiple production delays and stoppages, which were caused by David Bergstein and preceded Ron Tutor's direct involvement with me, have now spanned two years, and the circumstances under which the film would now be completed are much different on several fundamental levels than when we embarked several years ago. I, unfortunately, am no longer involved in the project and cannot call it 'my' film. I wish Ron Tutor well."

Tutor counters:

"Russell conducted himself like a perfect gentleman. I understood his position. It really didn't have anything to do with him but with others, and we just reached a point where I couldn't do what he wanted. But it was a decent negotiation between the two of us. No lawyers. No idle threats, just two people trying to clean something up, and we couldn't get there. It was surprising and disappointing, but I understood."

Ha! We're sure he was completely level-headed and rational!

Once a new director is hired, Biel and co-star Tracy Morgan will be expected to participate in re-shoots.

YEESH! It sounds to use like there is no chance of making back all of the money that's gone into this thing! First James Caan walks off the set because he can't deal with Russell's crazy, and now this!

And just in case you're curious to see the director conducting himself like a 'perfect gentleman,' here he is with Lily Tomlin on the set of I Heart Huckabees (below)!

Disney Finally Agrees To Sell Miramax?

miramax-logo.jpg

Looks like Disney may have finally reached a deal to sell Miramax.

The winning bidder goes to Los Angeles billionaire Ronald Tutor and his partners Morgan Creek, Colony Capital, and David Bergstein for a whopping $675 billion.

An insider says that "the deal is not done, but it's going to get done. We've agreed in principle."

Sources say that the deal will be complete by the end of July, which means Harvey Weinstein and his brother Bob will again be losing the company that they co-founded.

Disney apparently was looking for a higher selling price, but with Miramax going out of business last year, they've relied on selling the company's extensive movie library.

It seems like Disney just wants to finally end the deal and count their losses!
