Rooney Mara Shares Her Surprising Experiences With Gender Pay Gap & Reveals Why We're Having The 'Wrong' Conversation!
We're so glad Rooney Mara is joining the gender pay gap movement!
In a recent interview with Deadline, Rooney opened up about her experiences with salary issues in comparison to her male counterparts. The beauty also took a minute to reflect on the important conversation about women's equality in Hollywood first sparked by Jennifer Lawrence's poignant essay in Lenny Letter.
Luckily for Mara, she has had only one instance of unexplained gender pay gap thanks to her preference for independent films where everyone is typically paid "equal". The actress also revealed there have been times where she has been paid more than men.
Obviously, the pay scale was NOT equal when Mara appeared in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo alongside Daniel Craig considering she was relatively unknown at the time:
"When I did Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, did Daniel Craig get paid more than me? Of course. He got paid a ton more than me, but he's Daniel Craig and no one knew who I was so I don't deserve to be getting paid what he's getting. He's the one putting asses in the seats, not me. I had never done anything, so that's just sort of the way that went."
Well, we guess that makes sense. As long as R.M. was comfortable with it that's all that matters!
Despite the Carol star's good fortune, she admits there's still something to be done about gender inequality. Not only does Rooney believe there's still progress to be made, she also thinks there needs to be a more analytic and thoughtful approach to the issue entirely:
