While other labels are designing for the future, Gucci's thinking about the planet.
The Italian fashion house has teamed up with Safilo to create a line of eco-friendly eyewear made from a new type of acetate "containing a much higher percentage of naturally occurring ingredients".
Roberto Vedovotto, CEO of the Safilo Group, explained:
"The acetate is the result of an extensive research to increasingly use material components of a natural origin. This initiative, together with the other ones that will come, is part of the long-term path for environmental sustainability that Safilo has decided to follow as part of its strategy."
In addition to the four green styles, the collaboration will also include shield sunglasses for men and women made from castor-oil seeds. They also plan to introduce eco-friendly packaging starting in 2012.
If you want to make the world a better place by wearing Gucci's eco-friendly glasses, prescription frames are expected to hit stores in September and sunglasses in October.
