As the story goes, after Mother Teresa died in 1997, she was beatified as "Blessed Teresa of Calcutta" after healing a tumor — her first miracle — in 2003.

Then, in 2008, a man in Brazil who had been suffering from an awful brain infection suddenly woke up from a coma completely healthy.

The Vatican Told Priests NOT To Report Child Abuse! Boo!!!!!

Filed under: Icky Icky PooMedia Minute

boo vatican

This is seriously disturbing news.

According to a 1997 letter, the Vatican warned Catholic bishops in Ireland NOT to report suspected cases of child abuse to police.

The letter was "obtained by Irish broadcasters RTE and provided to The Associated Press." We're sure the Vatican is overjoyed to hear that AP is in possession of such a document.

Pope John Paul II's Ireland diplomat Archbishop Luciano Storero signed the letter himself, and warned Irish bishops that their policy of "making the reporting of suspected crimes mandatory 'gives rise to serious reservations of both a moral and canonical nature.' "

Yikes! Pret-ty uncomfortable timing for this to come out, especially now that Pope John Paul II is supposed to be on his way to Sainthood.

Here's what director of the Irish chapter of Amnesty International Colm O'Gorman had to say about the letter:

"The letter is of huge international significance, because it shows that the Vatican's intention is to prevent reporting of abuse to criminal authorities. And if that instruction applied here, it applied everywhere."

Thus far, the Vatican has declined to comment, and we can't blame them. We're not sure WHAT they'll say to bounce back from this!

Boo, Vatican! This is BEYOND disappointing.

Pope John Paul II Gets Closer To Sainthood

pope john paul II gets closer to sainthood

Looks like the current Pope's going to have a lot to live up to!

Today, the Vatican announced that Pope John Paul II will be beatified on May 1st.

The late Pope will be referred to as "the Blessed John Paul II" following the beatification ceremony, and he'll be much closer to becoming a saint.

For one to be "beatified," a post-death miracle must be proven "through the scrutiny of medical and theological experts."

Looks like John Paul should be all set to be beatified, as he's been credited for healing Sister Marie-Simon-Pierre who prayed to him, following his death. According to "experts," her prayers to the late Pope cured her of Parkinson's disease, and it was deemed "a miracle."

For John Paul II to actually reach saint status, he'll need a second miracle to be confirmed.

Guess we'll see what happens. We'll be sure to keep an ear out for any miracle reports.

Do U think John Paul II deserves recognition as a saint? Do U think it will happen?
