9 Actresses Who Landed Big Movie Roles Originally Written For Men!

no title

They ain't here to play no love interest!

It's no secret that men get the lion's share of meaty roles in Hollywood, but the good old gender swap was a studio solution long before the Ghostbusters reboot came along!

Sigourney Weaver's unforgettable portrayal of Ellen Ripley in Alien is widely considered one of the best film heroes of all time, but the badass heroine was originally written as the standard male action hero before director Ridley Scott decided to switch the gender to enhance the story!

Of course, Ripley isn't the only character to get the gender flip in the development stage.

Believe it or not, Angelina Jolie's super-spy role in Salt was originally supposed to be played by Tom Cruise, and Sandra Bullock's political strategist in Our Brand is Crisis was taken from George Clooney's hands!

Find out what other famous actresses landed starring roles originally written for men (below)!

Finally, some quality roles for women in film!

Ellen DeGeneres is totally embracing the slew of female reboots that are quickly taking over Hollywood, so it's no surprise she wanted to produce one of her own.

Following in the steps of Melissa McCarthy's Ghostbusters and Sandra Bullock's upcoming Ocean's Eight, the daytime host decided to give another male-driven blockbuster a feminist remake — Magic Mike!

In anticipation for The Ellen DeGeneres Show's Season 14 premiere next week, which will feature Channing Tatum as the guest, the comedienne shared exclusive footage of her very own spinoff Magic Michelle!

Ellen obviously takes on the TITular role, starring alongside Jenna Dewan Tatum as Peppermint, Olivia Munn as Honeydew, and Chrissy Teigen as Linda Peterson. But it's definitely Oprah Winfrey's enthusiastic stripping that steals the show…

no title

As you may remember, a couple months back we learned that Warner Bros. talking about making an all female Ocean's Eleven flick — appropriately titled Ocean's Eight — starring Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett!

Well fast forward a couple months and we've got some pretty incredible news as Deadline reports that not only are Anne Hathaway and Rihanna in talks to join the previously mentioned ladies, but Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, AND Awkwafina aka Nora Lum, are also firming up deals!

If you're keeping track, that's only seven women… which means the possibilities are endless for that eighth lady!

Unfortunately, the film doesn't have a shoot date yet as the cast isn't fully confirmed, but if it's anything like George Clooney's hit flick, we're sure to love it!

Not only are we excited about the idea of this female-led flick, but the casting would be incredible news for RiRi seeing as how she's finding more time for acting as she just finished shooting Luc Besson's Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

We have no idea whether or not we'll see cameos from any of Ocean's Eleven's original cast like Clooney, Brad Pitt, or Matt Damon, but seeing as how the flick will be produced by Eleven producer Steven Soderbergh, you never know!

Are you as excited as we are for this all-female caper?!

RANK: What's The WORST Romantic Comedy Of All Time?

no title

More like romantic tragedies!

Most rom-coms are supposed to make audiences root for an unlikely couple to fall madly in love with each other, with a few good laughs along the way.

And while some of these films are able to successfully court two characters and solve all their life problems just in time for a post-credits wedding dance party scene, the formulaic nature of these films can often times backfire!

No one wants to relive the disastrous romantic pairing of Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler in The Ugly Truth. And instead of making audiences laugh in All About Steve, Sandra Bullock proved that no star can avoid the occasional rom-com stinker.

Just ask Jennifer Aniston, who stars in four of the bad rom-coms that made our list!

But which romantic comedy is the absolute worst? Cast your votes (below) to find out!

Cate Blanchett Is Reportedly In Talks To Join Sandra Bullock In An All-Female Ocean's Eleven!

no title

Two awesome actresses in one awesome film?! Yes please!

Last year, it was announced that Sandra Bullock would star in an all-female Ocean's Eleven film directed by Gary Ross.

On Friday, it was reported that Cate Blanchett is in talks to join this kick-ass flick!

Known by execs as "Ocean's Ocho", the Carol star would be playing the Brad Pitt to Bullock's George Clooney. However, don't think this film is modeled directly after the 2001 hit. While the dynamic between the two leads is the same, the characters are completely different.

There were rumors that Jennifer Lawrence would also appear, but she may have to bow out due to scheduling issues. Boy, that would've been great!

This project is expected to film late fall/early winter.

Get excited, y'all!
