New Study Throws Omega-3's Under The Bus!

Omega 3 Supplements No Help

Well, Omega-3 supplements, that is!

It's true, a new study is showing that those fish oil pills you've been taking haven't been doing anything at all — it shows that the supplements don’t lower users’ risks of heart attack, stroke, sudden death or death from heart disease or any cause.

Part of the study had scientists reviewing 20 studies dating back to 1989 that involved 68,680 participants. So it wasn't small by any means.

So what's up with the conclusion now vs. what it was in the past?

Happiness Gene Is Found In Women!

Female Happiness Gene Found

There is a gene in women that helps produce happiness, and researchers have just found it!

Low expression of the gene MAOA (monoamine oxidase A) was associated with increased happiness in adult females — but not in men.

Here's what the researchers said:

“…[L]ow expression of MAOA has been related to some negative outcomes like alcoholism, aggressiveness and anti-social behavior. It’s even called the warrior gene by some scientists; but, at least for women, our study points to a brighter side of this gene.”

Ouch, it's a double edged sword!

It was a relatively small study, though — they analyzed the DNA of 193 women and 152 men, cross-checking the results with the participants’ self-reported happiness scores.

If you're wondering how MAOA works, it's like antidepressants. It helps to break down neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine.

Weirdly enough, this could account for the paradox between men and women that women report more anxiety and mood disorders than men, but have more happiness too.

Science is AWESOME!

We wonder what kind of help for depression this will lead to!

Can Mind Reading Technology Hack Your Brain??

eeg-used-to-read-brainwave-hack-mind.jpg

A computer scientist at Oxford recently read the brainwaves of test subjects using a standard brainwave reader (EEG) and a video game controller!

So instead of celebrity phone hacking scandals, are we looking at celeb brain hacking?!

The study had participants look at numbers, names, logos and people.

The researchers were looking for something called a P300 response, a specific brainwave pattern that happens when someone relates to or recognizes something.

So they can't go in your brain and retrieve information, but they could do something like show you sets of numbers and see if any of them are familiar. Like how credit card numbers or a social security number might be familiar.

This is only the very beginning of the technology but it's kinda scary people can sort of read your mind already.

Let's hope they invent Magneto's helmet before this technology gets perfected. LOLz!
