3D Cleopatra With Angelina Jolie Getting Closer!

updates on angelina jolie cleopatra film

Back in October, we heard from James Cameron that a 3D Cleopatra film was in development at Sony.

Now, it looks like progress is finally being made, and according to producer Scott Rudin, a director has almost been chosen. Rumors say that The Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass is a front-runner.

Here's what Rudin had to say about Stacy Schiff's biography Cleopatra: A Life, the film's source material:

"[It's] the first to be written by a woman. It felt like such a blow-the-doors-off-the-hinges idea of how to tell it, impossible to resist. We're pretty close. A lot of directors want to do it, but there is only a handful we'll make it with."

As far as casting is concerned, Rudin has made it clear that he REALLY wants Angelina Jolie for the project:

"Who else could play it? Who do you get if not her? She's a gigantic movie star, a great actress. She's got an unbelievable variety of aspects to her."

We agree. Angelina all the way! As we've said before, she's def right for this role.

Are U pumped to hear that Cleopatra might actually happen soon?

Rooney Mara Covers Vanity Fair W

One magazine's trash, is another magazine's treasure and that's exactly what happened with W's February issue.

Back in December executives of The Girl With A Dragon Tattoo were talking with Vanity Fair about doing a cover shoot with the film's star Rooney Mara.

The catch: they'd have to use Jean-Baptiste Mondino as the photographer.

A rep at VF explained:

"[Producer] Scott Rudin wanted to use their own set photographer, Mondino, to take the shots. We like Mondino’s work, but said no way — that we would only use our own photographer. So they went with W."

And this is what they ended up with, Rooney styled as her character Lisbeth Salander.

There's also a report that Vanity Fair snubbed Rooney a second time by putting the movie's original star Noomi Rapace on their Young Hollywood issue that's out in March.

James Franco To Direct Adaptation Of Faulkner's As I Lay Dying

Where does this guy find the time??

James Franco's latest project will have him writing the screenplay and directing William Faulkner's literary classic, As I Lay Dying, for the big screen.

Fox Searchlight has already committed to the film with hopes that the project will begin development by next Spring.

He's also reportedly writing and directing Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian with Scott Rudin for 2012.

Out of the recent films Franco has been involved with recently, he says this is the film he's the most "attached to."

AND he will be doing all of these projects while still attending classes at Yale University and the Rhode Island School of Design.

Epicness! James Cameron In Talks To Direct Angelina Jolie In Cleopatra

james cameron in talks to direct angelina jolie in new cleopatra film

We would love to see this combination! Although would they do this in 3D?

Sources have confirmed that Avatar and Titanic director James Cameron is currently in early talks with Sony Pictures about the possibility of directing Angelina Jolie in Cleopatra.

The script is based on Stacy Schiff's book Cleopatra: A Life, and it's being written by Brian Helgeland, whose last epic feature script was Russell Crowe's Robin Hood.

The film is being produced by Scott Rudin, who recently produced everything The Social Network.

Quite the team behind this one! We'll be keeping our ears open for updates.

How do U feel about the possibly of James Cameron directing Cleopatra? Do U think he could make this better than Avatar?

Tittays And Coke Are Staying In Facebook Movie

Although producer Scott Rudin was hesitant about leaving a scene of hard core pAARtying in The Social Network because it depicts real people, the full scene isn't going anywhere.

Rudin has let certain Facebook execs read the script and have accommodated certain requests to change dialogue, but nothing major. It was also considered whether to cut out a scene with Napster co-founder, Sean Parker, who delivered a speech at a partly while two girls offered cocaine off their bare breasts.

Justin Timberlake plays Parker in the film and was a well known confidant of Mark Zuckerberg, but left the company in 2005 after a cocaine-related arrest. The scene in the film is not based on real events.

Facebook rep, Larry Yu, said:

“Maybe the movie is a sign that Facebook has become meaningful to people, even if the movie is fiction. What the movie may or may not contain is not what we’re focused on. What matters more is building a useful, innovative service that people enjoy using to connect and share.”

Ha. And all anyone cares about is all the shiz they got into!
