Even though there is an international moratorium on whaling, banning all forms of whaling for everything expect a "scientific research" loophole (which Japan exploits yearly), many countries continue to hunt whales.

In fact, since the ban, the number of whales killed each year has almost doubled in the past decade!

The whole quota thing sounds overly complicated, almost creating a stock market for whales.

The Sea Shepherd has a fleet of several ships, and one of them has been seriously damaged by a giant rogue wave.

It seems pretty serious and the rescue is still under way.

The Brigitte Bardot, the ship that was damaged, issued a distress signal.

“Steve Irwin responds to a distress call issued by the Brigitte Bardot. Brigitte Bardot was very seriously damaged by a powerful wave which has cracked the bow and the pontoon.

The Steve Irwin reported that they are currently facing the storm to reach the position of Brigitte Bardot, some 240 nautical miles South West. It will be on-site in approximately 20 hours.

The Steve Irwin and will ensure the safety of the crew and then plans to escort the ship damaged in Fremantle for repairs.”

The Steve Irwin is another ship in the Sea Shepherd fleet and it is on its way to rescue the damaged ship.

The entire crew of the Brigitte Bardot is in our thoughts, and we hope for a speedy and successful rescue.

This is despicable.

Japan is spending 2.3 BILLION yen ($29 million) from its tsunami reconstruction budget to fund their annual whale murdering spree hunt.

They are defending their actions by saying the money is helping to fund Japan's whaling industry as a whole, including some towns along the coast that were severely affected by the tsunami.

The money is supposed to help beef up security of the fleet to ensure "stable operation."

That basically means they're worried about the Sea Shepherd.

We think its terrible that they're pulling money away from disaster victims to go out and kill whales.

Let's hope the Sea Shepherd is ready to do what's needed of them to save the whales.

The Sea Shepherd, the anti-whaling ship, hosted a benefit to raise funds for their upcoming anti-whaling campaign.

The event was held at a private residence where there was a comedy show, starring Sarah Silverman, a full vegan spread of food and, the best part, an open bar.

Some pretty big celebs were there, the biggest being Martin Sheen and Alyssa Milano.

It's good to know that someone has the whales' back.
