So sad… Over 20 defenseless fur seals were bludgeoned to death on a New Zealand coastline.
Attackers most likely used bats or clubs to kill the seals, including eight pups just a few days old.
Government officials are taking the matter seriously and are determined to prosecute those involved.
Conservation Minister Kate Wilkinson revealed:
"To go around and club 23 seals to death over a number of days is very deliberate and you have to question the state of mind of someone who can carry out such a cruel and abhorrent attack.”
The attack took place at Ohau Point colony which is a breeding ground for the seals, but unfortunately, 13 breeding females were killed and another 13 pups depending on their mother’s milk would die.
New Zealand law states that the harming or killing of any fur seals or marine animals has a charge of $191,000 or up to six months in jail.
Let’s hope they catch the awful people who did this!!!
