So disappointing!

Following a three hour debate, the Iowa house has voted today to approve a resolution that proposes a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage!

House Joint Resolution 6 was approved by a very disheartening vote of 62-37, however, it was expected following last week's house judiciary committee, which passed the resolution with an 13-8 vote.

One Iowa Executive Director Carolyn Jenison says:

“The proposed amendment devalues families and divides Iowans. The Constitution is meant to protect the freedoms and liberties of all Iowans. It is inappropriate to use the political process to single out and deny a group of Iowans of their constitutional protections.”

And senate majority leader Michael Gronstal maintains:

“The vote today by House Republicans was a big step backwards for the constitutional rights of all Iowans. I remain committed to protecting the rights of all Iowans and focusing our energy on helping Iowans recover from the national recession.”

Well said!

They should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for such a blatant infringement on people's rights!

This may have been a step back, but that doesn't mean that we still can't LEAP forward again if we need to!
