Sad. The View Perpetuates False Information About The Spread Of HIV/AIDS, Refuses To Retract
It's truly unfortunate that they're refusing to acknowledge a clearly incorrect statement.
On yesterday's episode of The View (above), while discussing the issue of HIV and AIDS in the African American community, Sherri Shepherd and guest host D.L. Hughley caused quite a bit of controversy by making some misinformed comments regarding heterosexual women contracting the disease from closeted gay men through intercourse.
Unfortunately, that information is incorrect, and GLAAD has asked the talk show to retract the damaging comments.
GLAAD's Senior Director of Programs', Rashad Robinson, says:
"Sherri Shepherd and D.L. Hughley's claim that African American gay and bisexual men are ‘primarily' responsible for increased HIV rates among African American women is inaccurate and dangerous. Medical experts, including the Centers for Disease Control have dispelled that myth and ABC has a responsibility to its viewers to correct the information. Shepherd and Hughley's comments fuel a climate of homophobia and racism."
With all the misinformation and falsities still out there regarding such a widespread disease, we're disappointed that ABC would have no problem letting clearly wrong facts knowingly be given blindly to their viewers.
So sad.
What do U think?? Should The View retract their comments??
