Ariel Winter Tells Ellen DeGeneres How Getting Emancipated From Her Mom Helped Her 'Emotionally And Physically'! Watch The Candid Interview!
She may be a part of a Modern Family on TV — but off screen, Ariel Winter has taken control over her own life ever since becoming legally emancipated.
Last year, the 18-year-old finally became an emancipated minor after a long court battle which the Department of Children and Family Services found evidence that her mom Chrisoula Workman was emotionally abusing her.
The actress opened up to Ellen DeGeneres on Monday about how she handled the emotional journey, explaining:
"It's been much better for me emotionally and physically to be on my own and have a better, safer household and support system."
As for that support system, Winter praised her older sister Shanelle Gray, who became her guardian back in 2012.
Ariel said her big sis has "been there for me through absolutely everything," and confirmed that neither of them have a relationship with their mother.
