Innerested in supporting your favorite artists, but low on cash? Now you'll be able to do it without shelling out $9.99 for their new albums!
Today, Billboard launches the Social 50, which is a chart that measures an artist's popularity based on activity on social networks.
The chart will be released weekly, and rankings will be influenced by friends, fans, and followers on social networking sites, as well as artist page views, weekly song plays, and measurement of the ratio of page views to fans.
Artists on the debut version of the chart include Rihanna in the #1 spot, followed by Eminem, Justin Bieber, Lady GaGa, Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha, and Katy Perry as well.
The Biebs and GaGa, eh? Could WE perhaps be having an influence on this chart? LOLs.
Here's what Billboard Editorial Director Bill Werde had to say about the new chart:
“We continue to adapt the way we chart the changing landscape of music. The Social 50 is yet another step in the evolution of Billboard and an important response to our changing times.”
We'll be innerested to see who makes the cut after the chart's first week in operation.
Rihanna must be happy to see herself in the top spot! Nice little consolation prize after the weak debut of her new album.
Will U follow Billboard's Social 50 chart?
