We're all going to miss Whitney Houston, but probably not as much as her godmother, Aretha Franklin, will.

The Queen of Soul admits the late singer had her ups and downs, but was always rooting for her to overcome her demons. She recently told sources, "We were all aware of her challenges and I was always rooting for her."

Whitney's tragic death was a surprise, to say the least, especially considering the music icon looked better than she had in years!

We thought she was in the process of mounting a major comeback when we saw the first glimpse of Sparkle and we weren't the only people crossing our fingers. Aretha saw the same "twinkle" in Whitney's eyes that we hadn't seen in years when she watched the film's trailer, saying:

"Seeing previews for the new Sparkle movie I thought, boy she looks good, healthy, fresh and has that twinkle in her eyes!"

Sadly, looks can be deceiving, but like Aretha, we'll always remember Whitney for all of the wonderful things she accomplished and all the joy she spread during her lifetime.

This may be difficult to watch, but it will be nice to get one last opportunity to see Whitney on the big screen!

Last month, we got a first look at Whitney Houston in her upcoming movie Sparkle (above), and we were pleased to see that she was looking REALLY good. Sigh.

As we mentioned before, the movie is a remake of the 1976 film about a group of singing sisters.

Whitney had said the following about the movie at the time:

This is the Whitney we like to see!

This is the first look at Mz. Houston's new movie Sparkle with co-star Jordin Sparks.

And gurlfriend is looking good!

Jordin described her experience with working with her idol:

"She was so cool and very motherly toward me. If I ever looked like I needed something, here she came saying 'Are you okay?'

I sang her songs into a hairbrush when I was little. Now she's acting as my mom and scolding me. It was a dream come true."

The movie is a remake of the 1976 film about a group of singing sisters.

Whitney herself expressed her excitement on working on the period piece:

"Part of the fun of making this movie is definitely the costumes and the hairstyles. The movie is set in 1963, and we had a great wardrobe, hair and makeup person and I loved wearing the outfits."

And they suit her well. We're so glad she's looking healthy and is doing what she does best. So, so, SO hoping we get to hear her sing in the film.

Wow, we can't believe it's been 15 years since we last saw one of our favorite divas on the big screen. It's about time she makes her comeback!
