Air Jordan is no longer a boys club!
Maya Moore of the Minnesota Lynx has become the first female face of the Jordan Brand. She will likely get her own show, clothing line, and other sports-related deals.
Michael Jordan’s company released a press release today with the following statement included:
I am thrilled to welcome Maya Moore into the Jordan Brand. Not only has Maya proven to be a prolific winner on the court, but her hunger and determination to make an impact off the court makes her a valuable addition to the Jordan family. We look forward to working with Maya as she carries her success to the next level.
Maya couldn’t be more excited about the deal:
“As a student of the game, it is a dream come true to align myself with a brand that has a rich history in sports. Like most kids, I grew up idolizing Michael Jordan and continue to work relentlessly to reach his iconic status on the court. I’m truly motivated to take my career to the next level as a member of Team Jordan.”
Cognrats, Maya! You deserve it, girl!!

Chris Mosier, a transgender triathlete, has won a sponsorship deal through a YouTube contest with training system TRX.
He was one of ten athletes chosen for the prize, which includes money to be put toward racing and training expenses, TRX workout equipment, and a video camera to document his progress.
He hopes to highlight transgendered competitors in sports with his new deal, explaining:
“With this sponsorship, I am hoping to bring some awareness to trans people participating in sports, and some of the issues we face. The first step of that is to let people know there are trans people in sports.”
Congratulations on the sponsorship deal, Chris! We're so excited that you're raising awareness on behalf of the LGBT community through your success and wish you the best as you continue to compete!

Uh-oh! Is Kobe Bryant in trouble with the law?
The NBA star was just chatting in between takes while filming a new commercial for Smart Car in downtown El Lay on Thursday.
Can the 6 ft. 6 inch Laker even fit inside one of those tiny Smart Cars?
Maybe they'll use CGI! Ha!

Tiger Woods lost most of his sponsorships after his sex scandal was exposed, but Brett Favre is faring a little better.
Wrangler and Snapper (mowers) are keeping him on as a spokesperson despite his recent sexting scandal.
Laura Ries, president of Ries & Ries, a marketing/consulting firm, says Favre’s marketability won’t take a huge hit from the scandal:
"It was a minor infraction, a text message. This is in no way on the scale of Tiger Woods."
All we can hope is that there aren’t too many cowboys out there with strong objections to sexting — or they’ll have to get their denim elsewhere for a while!

This is huge!
Now that Simon Cowell is prepping the launch of the US version of his singing competition, The X Factor, two massive advertisers are currently duking it out over sponsorship of the series - Coca Cola and Pepsi!
Coca Cola, which has sponsoring American Idol for quite a long time, has one more year left on its contract with the FOX competition!
Meanwhile, Pepsi passed on sponsoring American Idol back in the day, and wants to make sure that this time, they don't make the same mistake twice!
The two are currently in the middle of a $50 - $100 million auction over its sponsorship, which means to the rest of us that regardless of who ends up with the deal, there are going to be some BIG BUCKS being spent to make sure the X Factor succeeds stateside!
What do U think?? Should Coke or Pepsi be the show's sponsor?

We don't blame them!
Amidst a public scandal in which he cheated on his pregnant wife, Wayne Rooney is about to be dumped by his £600,000-a-year sponsor, Coca-Cola.
The brand is "horrified and bewildered" by allegations that Rooney slept with a prostitute. And if he loses Coke, we're sure there will be many to follow!
Nigel Currie of consultancy Brand Rapport, said:
"A lot of Rooney’s sponsors are pushing family-orientated products. The guys in the U.S. will not understand his behaviour and will want to get out of their contracts with him and move on. If this goes on for much longer, I would not be surprised if his sponsors say enough is enough."
The Coca-Cola spokesman in London said there was no change in the contract and added that "this is a private matter for Wayne Rooney and his family."
Ha. It's only a matter of time!
