It's no secret that The Today Show has pretty much been a disaster, behind-the-scenes and in the ratings alike, since Ann Curry was controversially sacked from the position of co-anchor last June, but finally, after all these months, Matt Lauer, otherwise known as the man long-rumored to be behind the decision to show her the door is speaking out about the entire ordeal!

And get this!

He's even admitting that it was all grossly mishandled!

However, don't get it twisted! He's not saying he was the one pushing for Curry's exit!

In fact, he was apparently even willing to resign, if NBC executives thought it would mean improvements in the ratings!

Today Is Back On Top Of The Morning Show Game

Well, that didn't last long.

Good Morning America's ratings that bested Today two weeks ago were short and sweet because the NBC morning show took back their crown last week.

Along with Matt Lauer's return, Today beat GMA's viewership by 243,000 people.

NBC Doesn't Think GMA's Ratings Will Beat Today's Again Anytime Soon

Last week, Good Morning America was finally able to take over the ratings throne that NBC's Today had been sitting on for 852 weeks.

While George Stephanopoulos and the rest of the GMA crew were celebrating their victory, NBC News president Steve Capus promised it would be short lived.

In an interview, he basically belittled the ABC broadcast and delivered this backhanded burn:

Rock Center Performing As Poorly As Playboy Club

Filling in the time slot of The Playboy Club (RIP), NBC's newsmagazine Rock Center is performing just as poorly by only garnering a 1.0 rating. Ouch…

So most would think they'd need to buckle down or fall victim to the same curse that got Amber Heard and Eddie Cibrian.

But according to NBC News president Steve Capus, that's just not the case with this one.
