Disturbing & Controversial: Vogue Italia Accused Of Glamorizing Domestic Violence Through Horror Movie-Inspired Editorial — Judge For Yourself HERE

Filed under: Fashion SmashionSpread 'EmVogueCover Shot

vogue italia horror movie ed

It just wouldn't be Italian Vogue without some envelope pushing!

Remember last month's "tribal" story?

This time, the magazine takes on gory horror movie violence in the cover (above) and editorial for the April issue, which features models Issa Lish and Natalie Westling trying to escape a see-through raincoat-clad killer played by male model Bernd Sassmannhausen.

All the horror movie tropes are there, but many believe that the bloody photos also convey a glamorization of domestic violence against women. And that the magazine is purposefully being provocative to sell more copies.

Regarding that critique, Franca Sozzani, the editor-in-chief of the mag, said:

"The horror of life is bigger than the one that you can see in the movies. This is really a horror show, what we are looking at and what we see every day in every newspaper around the world is how fragile the woman still is today, and how she can be attacked, can be abused, can be killed. We sell the dream because we are a magazine… But at the same time, we can give people the opportunity to have a voice, for awareness. It’s not about provocation, at all."

She has a point, and if the editorial gets people thinking more about the very real and very awful nature of domestic violence, then maybe it's worth it in the end!

Plus, one of the models playing the victims (SPOILER ALERT!) fights back and kills the guy in the end!

Watch the mini movie that accompanies the editorial …AFTER THE JUMP!!!

Vogue Italia Promotes "Tribal"-Inspired Shoot With White Model! Cringe-Worthy!

vogue italia saskia de brauw

Vogue Italia has definitely not learned its lesson from past mistakes.

But maybe the mag doesn't view them as mistakes, otherwise why would they keep making the same ones over and over again?

The March issue of the magazine features white model Saskia de Brauw in what can only be described as some type of "tribal" face paint.

Inside the spread, the Dutch model poses with stuffed animals in clothing meant to mimic "tribal-style" dress, including warp skirts and turbans, except that instead of being made from animal hide, the clothing is Chanel and Celine!

We're thinking Vogue Italia was definitely going for another inspired-by-indigenous-cultures editorial, which is problematic in many ways, especially because it fetishizes native cultures, and appropriates them in order to construct an "edgy" fashion story while ignoring the history of imperialism and oppression that plagued those very places where Vogue's editors are now drawing inspiration from.

It's baffling how the fashion world just keeps on promoting such offensive and insensitive material over and over again.

When will they learn???

Gisele Bundchen & Linda Evangelista Help Vogue Italia Celebrate 25 Years Of Awesomeness!

Gisele Bundchen and Linda Evangelista cover Vogue Italia's July issue
linda evangelista july 2013 vogue italy

Doesn't it seem like Gisele Bundchen was just on the cover of Italian Vogue?

That's ’cause she was! The supermodel gorgeously covered the mag's June issue, and it was so perfect that they brought her back for the July issue as well!

Photographed by Steven Meisel, Gisele looks like a contessa in a black lace Dolce & Gabbana number while surrounded by some swarthy gentlemen.

Lucky fellows!

And to commemorate 25 years under EIC Franca Sozzani and Meisel's leadership, the mag also nabbed the legendary Linda Evangelista.

The 48-year-old (she looks awesome!) shares her cover with a hunky father-son duo — they might not actually be related, but let's pretend, shall we?!

This is her second international Vogue cover this summer!

Way to slay all these years later!
