Julianne Moore Is Petitioning To Change The Name Of Her High School Honoring A Confederate General!

Julianne Moore is putting her foot down!

Recently, the actress — along with friend and producer Bruce Cohen — created a change.org petition to rename their alma mater — J.E.B. Stuart High School — in Fairfax County, VA.

The school — founded in 1959 — was named after the Confederate general who fought to keep African Americans enslaved.

According to their petition, which has already racked up over 29,000 signatures:

"No one should have to apologize for the name of the public high school you attended and the history of racism it represents, as we and so many alumni of Stuart have felt the need to do our whole lives."

The moniker is only made worse by the school's symbol: an image of Stuart waving the Confederate flag atop a horse.

Instead, the Oscar winner believes her education center should be named after civil rights leader and Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall.

In a statement, she exclaimed:

Reporter Makes Little Boy Cry In First Day Of School Interview!

We've all been there!

Another summer is coming to an end, and parents everywhere are getting excited to go back-to-school shopping and get their kids out of the house!

But for first time students, the concept of leaving your home everyday to be taught by a stranger can be a bit daunting!

KTLA reporter Courtney Friel was reminded how overwhelming first time education can be when she asked Andrew Macias if he was excited for his first day of kindergarten!

The 4-year-old was initially enthusiastic about the new opportunity of starting out at City Terrace Elementary School.

But after the reporter asked if he was going to miss his mom, the brand new kindergartener was faced with a harsh reality check — and started crying!

PS22 Chorus Sings Martina McBride's I'm Gonna Love You Through It To A Teacher Battling Cancer — Watch The Touching Tribute

PS22 Chorus has struck a sentimental chord with a heart-felt dedication to a beloved teacher fighting cancer.

The fifth graders at the Staten Island elementary school sang Martina McBride's I'm Gonna Love You Through It as a tribute to teacher Adriana Lopez, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

The video, posted on the chorus' YouTube channel, shows Lopez emotional and wiping away tears as she watches the performance from the bleachers.

McBride herself caught wind of the video and shared a touching message on her Twitter:

Hundreds Of High School Students Dance To Taylor Swift's Shake It Off During Their Graduation Ceremony! Watch The Flash Mob Here!

This time of year, millions of students are graduating from their respective high schools and beginning the next chapter of their lives.

With this transition comes excitement, but it can also be a little nerve wracking. It's a bit overwhelming being thrust into the unknown after leaving the comfortability of high school.

The students at Portsmouth High School recognize this fear, but instead of running away from it — they take a note from Taylor Swift and Shake it Off!!

During their high school graduation, the class of 2015 broke off into an epic flash mob of Swifty's hit 1989 track!

We can only imagine how these students had to deal with studying with finals while also having to learn the choreography for this dance — but it certainly paid off!
