Hopeful Parents' Nightmare Surrogate Keeps Baby For Herself — And Forces THEM To Pay Child Support! Uhh…
This is HORRIBLE and shocking!
A couple named Barbara and David — they didn't want their last name used — hired a woman named Jamie to be their surrogate to carry a child for them way back in 2008.
Jamie, and her husband Steven, seemed normal and wonderful when they met initially, and after notarizing and signing their surrogate contract, everything seemed OK.
But then very early on after the procedure was done and the pregnancy took hold, things started to fall apart.
Barbara recounted the moment she knew something was wrong to PEOPLE Magazine:
"[Jamie] came to my area for the ultrasound and when she got there she said she and her husband had separated. I asked her why and if it was because of the pregnancy. She said, 'No, we were having problems long before then.' When we first met them, she said they were a happily married couple. Then all of a sudden she drops that bomb on me."
A few weeks further into the pregnancy, Jamie had stopped talking to Barbara and David altogether. When the baby — named Kaylee Grace (pictured above) — was born in January of 2009, the couple wasn't even informed of the birth!!!
Barbara was shocked:
"I finally called and left a message and I told her that I would appreciate a phone call. I threatened to send a sheriff to her door."
Then the legal battle began.
When Jamie refused to return the baby to the rightful parents, Barbara and David were forced to go to court… only judges had no idea how to rule on the couple's surrogate contract:
"When we first went to court, the judge said she didn't know what do with the contract. We were told we can't make a contract on a human life. For the past seven years, we have been in and out of court fighting."
Now, in the most shocking twist of it all, Barbara and David saw the courts divide custody of Kaylee Grace between themselves and Jamie — and the couple now pays $459 a month in child support to the surrogate parent-turned-baby stealer!!!
The court's ruling initially allowed Barbara and David to see their child two weekends a month, but even with that ruling, Barbara claims they haven't seen Kaylee Grace since October of 2015:
"I've had to watch when that baby came into our life and watch her older sister cry when she had to leave. I've watched this emotionally destroy everyone."
Now, the girl — who they wanted to call Grace, but Jamie named Kaylee — is split between two worlds, and Barbara and David will do whatever it takes to get her back:
"I spend every day thinking of her. I wonder if she's okay and how she's doing. There is nothing else I can do. I feel extremely sad that there is this life that I feel responsible for – and that I helped bring into this world – that I feel is being destroyed because of the custody and how the courts are handling the situation."
Barbara says that she sent more than 500 pages of evidence to the court system in Pennsylvania to see if they can investigate the case and figure out a better solution than this.
But in the meantime, Kaylee — now seven years old — is still with surrogate mother Jamie.
So, so, SO scary.
We hope no one else ever has a surrogate story this bad ever again!!!
