The sketch show took to Twitter to make the exciting announcement, posting:

We don't really blame NBC for going after some huge names to kick off season 42, since the absence of Taran Killam, Jay Pharoah, and Jon Rudnitsky is sure to leave a pretty big void.

However, it will be interesting to see newbies Melissa Villaseñor, Mikey Day, and Alex Moffat in action!

Time to pump in some fresh blood!

But like always, the aftermath of the brutal cuts comes with the addition of new faces on the NBC sketch series.

And this batch of newbies particularly excites us, because the long-running series finally added a Latina cast member!

Taran Killam Officially Says Goodbye To SNL With An HBO Spoof!

no title

Taran Killam is saying goodbye to Saturday Night Live the only way he knows how — through the art of parody.

Last month, NBC confirmed that the veteran cast member wouldn't be returning to the series, along with fellow fan-favorite Jay Pharoah.

Though he admitted he was "never given a reason why" his contract wasn't renewed, Killam did make sure to say he had "no gripes" about being let go.

So how did the actor decide to officially say goodbye to the late night sketch series?? Why, with a spoof of the HBO docu-series Hard Knocks, of course!

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Taran shared a quick sketch titled Live Knocks: Saying Goodbye to SNL — which showed the vet packing up his dressing room, and included a shameless plug for his new film Brother Nature.

Liev Schreiber, who narrates Hard Knocks, commentates Killam's exit as the funny man pulls down photos of costars Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. So sad!

Ch-ch-check out Taran's poignant farewell clip (below)!!!

Don't Worry About Fired SNL Stars Jay Pharoah & Taran Killam — They Both Already Have New Gigs Lined Up On The SAME Network!

no title

It's almost as if they're highly sought after in their field or something…

We still don't know what was going through Lorne Michaels' head earlier this week when he decided to fire both Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah after six years on Saturday Night Live… but it may have been the best thing possible for their careers.

That's because in just the two days since the NBC casting news first broke, both comedians already have new gigs lined up over at Showtime!

According to SHO president David Nevins at the Television Critics Association's press tour on Thursday, Taran will star in Season One of Friday Night Lights' Jason Katims' comedy anthology Mating, while Jay landed the pilot for a new show called White Famous from Californication's Tom Kapinos.

Needless to say, Showtime is much more critically acclaimed than NBC, so we're extremely happy that both actors were able to land on their feet following their sudden SNL terminations.

Unfortunately, no word on Jon Rudnitsky's potential prospects just yet…

Will U be watching Mating and/or White Famous on Showtime in 2017??

Jay Pharoah Finally Breaks His Silence After Surprise SNL Firing… But Is He Hinting At Behind-The-Scenes Drama?!

Live from New York it's… only three of the cast?

Television viewers were modestly shocked on Tuesday when it was announced that both Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah had been unceremoniously fired from Saturday Night Live after six years on the late night sketch show.

Not only were they arguably the two most talented male players in the cast, but they're also two of the most featured comedians… which means Lorne Michaels must have something big planned for Season 42 to replace them…

While Taran addressed his sudden departure shortly after the NBC news broke, Jay remained suspiciously quiet all day long — as did fellow axed actor Jon Rudnitsky, but he was still new, so…

Luckily, the Barack Obama impersonator finally referenced his termination in an Instagram post on Wednesday alongside Taran and Vanessa Bayer… but is he subtly placing blame on

A THIRD Saturday Night Live Cast Member Just Got Cut — PLUS 20 Other SNL Stars Who Were Fired!

no title

We guess bad things really do come in threes…

Saturday Night Live viewers were shocked on Tuesday when it was reported that fan-favorites Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah had both been let go from the late night show after six years on the air.

However, it seems as though Lorne Michaels wasn't content with cutting just two of his line-up, because featured player Jon Rudnitsky followed them right out the door later the same day!

But if Jay, Jon, or Taran happen to be your favorite, don't fret — plenty of today's hottest stars were one once fired from the NBC series, too!

Just look at Robert Downey, Jr., Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Sarah Silverman! All three of them had less-than-stellar stints on the show, and they turned out fine.

So who else has been fired from SNL in its 41-season span??

Saturday Night Live has dropped two of its longtime cast members!

On Monday, it was confirmed that Jay Pharoah and Taran Killam will not be returning to the NBC sketch show for its 42nd season as the twosome will be pursuing "other opportunities". Whoa.

As you surely know, both Jay and Taran have been with SNL for six seasons and have created countless memorable characters. Mr. Pharoah alone has famously impersonated Barack Obama, Jay Z, Dr. Ben Carson, Will Smith, etc. Not to mention, Killam is best known for his impersonations of Matthew McConaughey, Marco Rubio, and more.

If you're baffled as to why Lorne Michaels would dump two of the show's seasoned vets, you're totally not alone! In fact, not long after the departure news hit the media, Taran opened up to Uproxx about his shocking exit. He dished:
