Last we heard about Mel Gibson, The Beaver director Jodie Foster was continuing to defend the man.
Now, Mel is coming to his own defense with regards to the tapes of his offensive rants towards Oksana Grigorieva.
Here's what he had to say about the tapes:
"Who anticipates being recorded? Who anticipates that? Who could anticipate such a personal betrayal?"
"I’ve never treated anyone badly or in a discriminatory way based on their gender, race, religion or sexuality — period. I don’t blame some people for thinking that though, from the garbage they heard on those leaked tapes, which have been edited.”
“[The tapes represent] one terribly, awful moment in time, said to one person, in the span of one day and [not] what I truly believe, or how I’ve treated people my entire life.”
More from Mel on the tapes:
"The main thing [about the tape scandal] is that it was terribly humiliating and painful for my family [and] all my kids."
We're certainly sorry for the kids, but then again, all of this could have been avoided if Mel hadn't said such awful things in the first place.
What do U think about Mel's comments regarding his tirade tapes?

Wow! She must be a good friend to say that Mel Gibson's one of the most beloved actors!
We think that might have been true at one point, but certainly that isn't the case nowadays. It'll be quite inneresting to see how The Beaver does despite his real life shenanigans!
To us, it really does look like it could be a good movie. We always like it when Jodie Foster is behind the camera as well as in front of it.
Take a few minutes and watch the director herself continue to stick up for the man and not his actions (we'll be honest, they should be inseparable).
Will U be seeing the Beaver?

We guess she wants to focus on directing from now on!
Jodie Foster, who just finished up taking the directorial reigns on the upcoming Mel Gibson drama, The Beaver, has revealed that she wants to give up acting for good, and has even signed on to direct a new science fiction film!
"I've reached that point where I don't want to act very much anymore. I am much more interested in holding off on acting, after 45 years as an actor. It's a long period of time to do the same thing. [Her new science fiction project] There's a family element to it, but it's much more a genre movie. I'd like to do that because that's a world I live in as an actor but I've never really gone to as a director. It's not anywhere close to being ready. [I don't write], so that always puts me at the mercy of some enormous talent that comes out of the woodwork that somehow has the same obsessions as me."
Well, seeing as she's set to appear in the film Elysium, we're relieved to know she's not giving up acting all-together, but think it's great that she's continuing to expand beyond her comfort zone and direct a genre piece!
Keep up the good work, gurl! We're excited to see your career progress down this path!

He does not look like a happy camper.
Nor should he. It's about time we saw some remorse for his deplorable behavior.
Instead of attending the SXSW Premiere of his new film, The Beaver, Mel Gibson instead chose to turn himself into the El Segundo Police Department last night to have a new mugshot taken and his thumb prints recorded, in accordance with the no contest to simple battery plea deal he took linked to his abuse of baby mama Oksana Grigorieva last year.
Check out his mugshot (above).
16 hours of community service and 52 weeks of counseling is a pretty lenient sentence, given what he did. We truly hope that he's learned from his horrific mistakes and takes his therapy sessions seriously.

According to Jodie Foster, it's about the art, not the artist.
At the SXSW premiere of her new movie The Beaver, also starring Mel Gibson, Jodie had one request for moviegoers. Before the screening started she asked:
"I just have to ask everybody, can you see a film and appreciate the artist for his work? And if anything, I think anybody who comes to see the film and understands Mel's extraordinary performance in the movie can't go away untouched by his humanity."
Mel did not show up at the premiere (for obvious reasons).
Jodie has an interesting point. Will moviegoers be able to separate the actor's personal life from his work on screen?
What do U think? Will U still see The Beaver despite Mel's personal troubles?

Last we heard about Gibson's
last next movie The Beaver, a DVD with the final cut of the film had been stolen from Mel's mailbox.
Now, the Jodie Foster-directed film has been delayed from March 23 to May 6.
Apparently, the new release date is intended to give Foster and the cast more time to promote the film. Also, it'll give The Beaver's prod company, Summit Entertainment, time to get some "word-of-mouth" hype going around at the SXSW film festival on March 16.
Is it even worth your time, Summit? Maybe it's time to let this one go and focus your attention on Breaking Dawn?
Guess we'll see if this delay helps The Beaver's cause.
Will U see The Beaver if/when it is released?

Or more accurately, from his mailbox.
Since his violent and scandalous relationship with Oksana Grigorieva became public knowledge, Mel Gibson's locked himself away, Howard Hughes style, in his house to avoid the media. When Summit Entertainment wanted to get his input on the final cut of his movie, The Beaver, they had to send the DVD with a courier to his house.
Once he had screened it, the DVD was placed back in his mailbox so that the courier service could return and bring it back to Summit. The DVD was place back in the box at 10:45 AM Wednesday morning. When the courier arrived at 2:30 PM, the DVD was missing. Someone had stolen it! Dun dun duuuuuun!
Now, the L.A. County Sheriff's Department has mounted a full-on investigation. They will not rest until the person who unlawfully removed the DVD from Mel's mailbox is found
,tarred and feathered and punished by the full extent of the law!
We're just kidding. It's being considered a petty theft. Missing cats are getting more attention from the police than this.
We expect to see the flick leaked on the internet in 3….2….1….
