The 2016 Tony Awards Bashes Donald Trump With 'The Book Of Moron' Parody & Mocks Hillary Clinton With 'The Clinton Line' Spoof!

With such a controversial candidate as Donald Trump, it's no surprise that the 2016 Tony Awards decided to shade the scandalized star!

On Sunday, host James Corden revealed a new (fake) musical all about the Republican presidential hopeful, and it's aptly titled The Book of Moron!

LOLz! We couldn't have picked a better name for a show about the combover king!

The Book of Mormon spoof featured Andrew Rannells as the Donald himself, and his silly song is TOTALLY HIGHlarious!

But, of course, CBS couldn't mock the GOP candidate without taking a jab at the presumptive Democratic nominee as well.

So, the awards show enlisted Glenn Close to portray Hillary Clinton in a spoof of A Chorus Line titled The Clinton Line! Ha!

Ch-ch-check out the funny bit (above)!

The Book Of Mormon Holds Strong In Hard Broadway Times

book-of-mormon-broadway-post-labor-day-sales.jpg

We're in that time of year that if you want to go see a Broadway show on the cheap, you'd better move it. From post-Labor Day through Thanksgiving, the Great White Way doesn't see very much action and the theaters all feel the sting right at the beginning of September.

That is, except for The Eugene O'Neill Theatre, home of The Book Of Mormon. In Broadway's annual post-Labor Day slump, the show managed to outsell standards like Wicked and The Lion King, pulling in $1,293,582 last week! Wicked, which has a higher capacity at the Gershwin than the Eugene, only brought in $1,293,582.

God must be on those boys side! Hows it feel to be smooth sailing, Trey Parker and Matt Stone???

Hurricane Irene Cancellations Send Broadway Box Office Sales Down

Broadway Hurricane

Broadway took a box office hit as Irene blew through, due to all the show cancellations.

The week’s gross went down 36 percent according to data from The Broadway League. Mainly because attendance was almost cut in half.

The Broadway League said all performances scheduled for Saturday and Sunday were cancelled due to:

“…suspension of public transportation, evacuations of many areas, closures of some highways and potential bridge closures by government authorities in preparation for Hurricane Irene.”

There were at least a few shows that did well despite the hurricane. One of them, The Book of Mormon, grossed 106% of it’s usual weekly, which was $786,459.

At least overall Broadway is still growing. Season-to-date they’re actually up $2,900,000; an increase of 1.1%. Yay broadway!

Broadway Has A Record-Breaking '10-'11 Season!

broadway-has-a-record-breaking-10-11-season

Wow! Guess people DO still go to the theatre!

The Broadway League is reporting that the 2010-11 Broadway season broke two records, reaching a box office high of 1.08 billion and an attendance of 12.53 million!

Apparently, this partly has to do with the fact that the season was an extra week long, which happens every seven years to help balance out bookkeeping variations like leap years, etc., but also because 42 shows opened over the course of the season!

We imagine shows like The Book of Mormon, Catch Me If You Can, and even the god-forsaken Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark certainly had to do with a lot of the cash flow this year, as well!

Broadway's certainly had a pretty exciting year!

Well done, guys!

South Park Creators' Musical Is Coming…This Thursday!

south park creators mormon musical previews begin this thursday

Broadway is about to get controversial AND HIGHlarious!

Back in September, we were excited to hear that South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone's religious satire The Book of Mormon was scheduled to premiere on Broadway on March 24.

Now, we're SO excited to announce that previews for the musical about "a pair of teenage Mormon missionaries sent to Uganda, where they confront war, famine and AIDS" will start THIS THURSDAY!

Oddly enough, Matt stone says the musical is pro-faith:

"…I mean, (Mormon) is a pro-faith musical. People may say, 'What?!' But that's what it's meant to be."

More from Stone:

"We can have a lot of fun at the Mormons' expense, because there's stuff in their religion that may seem silly to outsiders. But these are really nice people who believe what they do wholeheartedly. And that leads us to ask, well, what do you believe in, and what's goofy about that?"

Here's a statement that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued with regards to the play:

"The production may attempt to entertain audiences for an evening [but that Mormon scripture] will change people's lives forever."

And here's what Stone had to say in response:

"Those guys just kill us with kindness every time. Their response to our South Park episode (on Smith) was basically the same: 'Look, you're free to do what you want.' It's so big-hearted and fundamentally American."

Ha! Now we're REALLY intrigued by this musical…especially after Matt Stone said it's a "pro-faith musical." Inneresting way to describe a Mormon-themed play by the South Park guys…

Are U excited for this play? Do U think it will, in fact, be "pro-faith?"
