CBS will ring in the new year with an almost entirely new Early Show crew.
Starting Jan 3, anchors Harry Smith, Maggie Rodriguez, and weatherman Dave Price will be gone from the show. According to CBS execs, they'll still be working for CBS News on-air…just on different programs.
Here's what CBS News had to say about Harry Smith's new role:
"[He] will shift his focus to hard news with an expanded role as primary substitute anchor on The Evening News with Katie Couric, Face the Nation and Sunday Morning while continuing to report major stories for all CBS News broadcasts."
And here's CBS News/Sports president Sean McManus on Harry, Maggie, and Dave's futures at CBS:
"We appreciate Harry, Maggie and Dave's countless contributions to The Early Show and are looking forward to the contributions they each will continue to make at CBS News."
The only member of the news team who will remain on The Early Show is Erica Hill, who will become a co-anchor with Chris Wragge.
Other new Early Show members include news reader Jeff Glor, who was an anchor on CBS Evening News' Saturday edition and weatherperson Marysol Castro, who was a weather/feature correspondent on ABC News' weekend edition of Good Morning America.
Guess we'll see how things play out with this new team. We'll be sorry to see the old team go, but we're glad to hear that none of them will be out of a job!
