Sir Anthony Hopkins Tops The Box Office With The Rite

the-rite-tops-box-office.jpg

What a slow weekend at the box office.

Not much came out this weekend, except for Sir Anthony Hopkins' The Rite, which opened at number one, but below expectations with $15 million.

No Strings Attached starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher came in number two in its second week with $13.7 million.

The other opener this week, Jason Statham's The Mechanic, came in number three with $11.5 million.

The Green Hornet and The King's Speech rounded out the top five.

Hmm, seems like The King's Speech got a bump from all its Oscar buzz.

So…what did U see this weekend??

Katy Perry Plans Dates With Russell Brand MONTHS In Advance!

russell and katy plan dates months in advance

Good thing Blackberrys and iPhones and Palm Pilots have calendars!

While on Ryan Seacrest's radio show, Katy Perry revealed that she plans dates with hubby Russell Brand as much as eight months in advance!

Here's what she had to say about it:

"It's not tricky because we have already planned it eight months in advance. That sounds absolutely crazy but that's just how we have to do it."

Are these dates USUALLY planned so far in advance? What if they want to see a new movie? We seriously doubt The Green Hornet will still be playing in September.

Tell us Katy, WHAT ELSE is planned eight months in advance? Or is some Russell-lovin' allowed to be spontaneous? LOLz!

What do U think about Katy and Russell's dating arrangement?

The Green Hornet Stings The Competition At The Box Office

green hornet is number 1 at box office

Looks like The Green Hornet has set a strong precedent for Ry Ry's Green Lantern to surpass live up to!

Audiences loved Seth Rogen this weekend, and his superhero movie took the #1 spot at the box office!

Here's what Sony's president of worldwide distribution Rory Bruer had to say about the film's success:

"As we moved down the road, it got a lot of love, the love that it deserved. I think everything worked really well for the film: the timing, the release date, the marketing, and, most importantly, the film itself. It all gelled in a terrific way. We're very pleased with the results."

The Ron Howard-directed comedy The Dilemma debuted at #2, bringing in only $17.4 million. Guess all the drama surrounding the movie's trailer didn't help its cause.

Other top box office spots were dominated by films with Oscar buzz, including True Grit at #3, The King's Speech at #4, and Black Swan at #5 and Little Fockers at #6.

Should be inneresting to see if The Green Hornet can sting again next weekend, when the Natalie Portman/Ashton Kutcher rom-com No Strings Attached is released.

Did U see The Green Hornet over the weekend? Did U like it?

These characters were HIGHlarious! This could DEF be cool.

Filming is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles this summer, and the movie is slated for release on June 1, 2012.

…Guess Seth Rogen was too busy with The Green Hornet and Kung Fu Panda sequels.

Are U excited for the "sort of" Knocked Up sequel?

Discovery Channel Discovers The World Of Comics!

discovery channel enters world of comic books

Those of us who went to see the new Harry Potter movie last weekend saw trailers for two comic book movies: The Green Lantern and The Green Hornet.

Clearly, it's all about green comics these days, and Discovery Channel recognizes that! Discovery's parent company will release its first comic book, Top 10 Deadliest Sharks, on December 1.

The comic book, which is really a graphic novel, and yes we understand there is a difference, is about sharks, and it will take a "serious but accessible look at some of the species' deadliest and dangerous members."

Included in the graphic novel will be 10 stories based on real life events surrounding one particular shark.

Here's what Discovery's VP of Licensing, Elizabeth Bakacs, had to say about their move into comics/graphic novels:

"Discovery's mission has always been to help viewers satisfy curiosity about the world around them through breathtaking imagery and stories."

More from Bakacs:

"We like to call this, instead of graphic fiction, graphic non-fiction. It has real-life shark attack stories. It has tips on how to stay safe and avoid shark attacks. It talks about the importance of sharks to our ecosystem.

It is definitely going to have a broader appeal beyond the hard-core comic books shops."

Other graphic novels on the horizon include the following:

-Discovery Channel's Dinosaurs & Prehistoric Predators

-Animal Planet's World's Most Dangerous Animals

Just think…this time next year we could be seeing a trailer for the movie version of Top 10 Deadliest Sharks! We're thinking it'll be Sin City meets Jaws!

What do U think about Discovery's decision to enter the world of comics/graphic novels?
