Those of us who went to see the new Harry Potter movie last weekend saw trailers for two comic book movies: The Green Lantern and The Green Hornet.
Clearly, it's all about
green comics these days, and Discovery Channel recognizes that! Discovery's parent company will release its first comic book, Top 10 Deadliest Sharks, on December 1.
The comic book, which is really a graphic novel,
and yes we understand there is a difference, is about sharks, and it will take a "serious but accessible look at some of the species' deadliest and dangerous members."
Included in the graphic novel will be 10 stories based on real life events surrounding one particular shark.
Here's what Discovery's VP of Licensing, Elizabeth Bakacs, had to say about their move into comics/graphic novels:
"Discovery's mission has always been to help viewers satisfy curiosity about the world around them through breathtaking imagery and stories."
More from Bakacs:
"We like to call this, instead of graphic fiction, graphic non-fiction. It has real-life shark attack stories. It has tips on how to stay safe and avoid shark attacks. It talks about the importance of sharks to our ecosystem.
It is definitely going to have a broader appeal beyond the hard-core comic books shops."
Other graphic novels on the horizon include the following:
-Discovery Channel's Dinosaurs & Prehistoric Predators
-Animal Planet's World's Most Dangerous Animals
Just think…this time next year we could be seeing a trailer for the movie version of Top 10 Deadliest Sharks! We're thinking it'll be Sin City meets Jaws!
What do U think about Discovery's decision to enter the world of comics/graphic novels?
