His precious The Hobbit KILLED at the box office New Year's Day raking in $9.5 million! That's in ONE DAY y'all!

Despite seriously tough competition from Christmas releases, Django Unchained and Les Miserables — Bilbo and his magical pals have held on to the top box office spot since the flick's Dec. 14th debt.

Altogether the movie has grossed an estimated $238.1 million to date domestically, aaaaand more than $470 million overseas.

The Avengers. The Dark Knight Rises. Skyfall.

No one expected On The Road to be a smash hit like these box office juggernauts, but even moderate expectations can lead to disappointment when they aren't met!

Considering the source material is one of the most beloved books of the 20th century, not to mention stars like Kirsten Dunst and Kristen Stewart, the film was expected to do better.

Instead, it pulled in just $43,000 opening weekend. Sure, that was only on four screens, but that's still a meager earning, greatly reducing its chances of a wide release.

It seems people would rather see The Hobbit's bare feet than Kristen's bare bosoms!

Even Rupert Sanders is going to see if he can direct a future installment! LOLz!
