Perez Reviews - The New Rigoletto at the Met Opera

We went to see Carmen at the Metropolitan Opera last year and we were very underwhelmed. It felt uninspired and too safe.

So we went Monday night to the Met to see their new production of Verdi's timeless Rigoletto with low to moderate expectations. And we were BLOWN AWAY!!!!

This is not your mother's opera!

Check out a song from the show above!

MANY liberties were taken with this production, helmed by Broadway director Michael Mayer. MM transported the show and set it in Las Vegas in the 1960s, and with that simple yet brilliant decision he injected this new Rigoletto with ten shots of adrenaline!

The entire cast seemed to be having so much FUN! And that score is just sooooooo good! From beginning to end!

The set design, Christine Jones, was stunning!

And while Dmitri Hvorotsky did a great job as the titular character, it is Irina Lungu and Matthew Polenzani who steal the show with their electric performances as the star-crossed lovers. Their duets in Act 1 were some of THE MOST THRILLING theatrical moments we have ever experienced!

So passionate!

So VISCERAL!!!!

The Met's new production of Rigoletto is a show (probably purposefully designed this way) that will appeal to the masses. And it is a show that must be seen!

We are still FEELING it!!!

Check Out A Sneak Peek At The Met's Punk: Chaos To Couture Exhibit!

The Met gives a sneak peek at this years punk themed met gala

We are CRAZY about the upcoming Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibit at the Met, and now the museum has given us a sneak peek of what to expect!

So far, we really like what we see!

Drawing inspiration from such rock masters as Patti Smith and Sid Vicious, designers like Riccardo Tisci, Junya Watanabe, Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, Gianni Versace, Helmut Lang, Ann Demeulemeester, Rei Kawakubo and of course, Vivienne Westwood, offer up their interpretations of the irreverent punk aesthetic.

As fab as the exhibit may be, we're even more excited about the Met Gala, and can't wait to see what everyone will be wearing!

Will they dig into designer archives for punky garb or have something custom made?

Will they show up in something cray or look totally polished?

What will Anna Wintour wear?!

So many questions! And we'll have to wait until May 6th to get some answers.

Check out the gallery (below) of what you can expect from fashion's most fabulous ball!

It's going to be hard to follow the record-breaking Alexander McQueen retrospective, but the Costume Institute and Metropolitan Museum of Art think they have the answer.

Rumor has it next year's exhibit will focus on the work of Miuccia Prada and Coco Chanel's biggest rival Elsa Schiaparelli!

Sounds promising.

What do U think???

Harper's Bazaar Doubles Up On Moss & McQueen

She may be getting old, but Kate Moss still knows how to strike a fierce pose!

For the month of May, Harper's Bazaar UK is celebrating The Met's Alexander McQueen retrospective with a double cover issue featuring his friend and muse in both an old and new design.

In her cover on the right, Kate dons the same ruffled organza dress she wore while appearing as a hologram at McQueen's Fall 2006 show.

For the second cover, the supermodel posed in a white gown designed by Sarah Burton.

Both of shots are equally gorgeous, but there's something about the organza dress that's so captivating.

Which do U like???
