More Deets On McQueen's Savage Beauty At The Met!

On Tuesday morning, Anna Wintour and a gaggle of press gathered at the Ritz in London to unveil the upcoming Alexander McQueen exhibit launching at the Met Gala on May 2nd.

The Costume Institute's curator, Andrew Bolton, said of the event:

"We drew on the McQueen archive in London and are indebted to McQueen's co-workers and colleagues for their willingness to share their memories of him. Especially Stella McCartney, whose friendship with McQueen makes her an ideal co-chair for the Costume Institute Ball, and Sarah Burton, who gave a valuable insight in to McQueen's design process over the past 14 years."

Sounds like this is going to be an amazing event!

Love It or Hate It?

Filed under: Fashion SmashionTina FeyRed Carpet

After being voted the Worst Dressed at the Golden Globes this year, you would think Tina Fey put a lot of effort into what she would wear to the Met Gala.

Unfortunately though, we're not sure the effort paid off.

Fey definitely went for the "different" look by showing up in a jumpsuit.

Tina wore a strapless, Yves Saint Laurent jumpsuit in what we can only assume was a big F-U to her critics from the Golden Globes.

But the joke might have backfired, cause although some jumpsuits can look good, Fey's dropped crotch, baggy ensemble isn't very flattering.

What do U think? Was it a fashion hit or miss?

Too Casual For The Met

Cutie Carey Mulligan also attended the Costume Institute Gala on Monday night.

And although we're usually a fan of Miz Mulligan, we just weren't feeling her look last night.

Carey wore a purple, lacy Miu Miu dress and paired it with some black stockings and black stilettos.

But when we think of the Met, we think of high-end fashion and couture.

Carey's look is just too casual for the gala.

Oprah Owns It On The Red Carpet

As one of the hosts of the 2010 Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, you'd expect Oprah Winfrey to arrive looking exceptionally gorgeous.

And momma O didn't disappoint!

Miz Winfrey wore a blue Oscar de la Renta gown which accentuated her curves in all the right places.

The navy silk-organza gown was adorned with navy and black caviar beading and a ruffle embroidered skirt. Said the designer of his creation:

“It is very romantic. Lots of ruffles, lots of cleavage—a real dress for a real woman.

She is the embodiment of the all-American woman, but she is not at all nostalgic. She is a woman of the twenty-first century.”

The gown took four people over 250 hours to complete! And it looks like all the work was well worth it.

We loves it!

Rachel Fails To Impress

Rachel Bilson also attended last night's 2010 Monday night's Costume Institute Gala in a Louis Vuitton dress.

And we're so not feeling her outfit.

The pattern, the belt, the black straps. It's just not working.

Really, is that the best she could do for the Met?

SJPeePee Lends Her Voice To The Met

Starting May 5th, you may hear a familiar voice guiding you through the "American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity" exhibit at NYC's Met Museum.

This past week, Sarah Jessica Parker recorded the audio guide for the new Costume Institute's exhibit.

Curator Andrew Bolton said the actress and fashionista was chosen "because of Sex and the City, she is so much associated with New York and with America, and with using fashion as a way to shape identity."

Uh huh, and the new SATC2 movie coming out had nothing to do with it.

Whatevs, it makes sense.
