Angela Bassett Joining Samuel L. Jackson In Broadway Debut

Angela Bassett joins The Mountaintop

We were pretty psyched to hear that Samuel L. Jackson would be making his Broadway debut this fall as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in The Mountaintop and we're happy to report the cast keeps getting better!

Initially, producers wanted Halle Berry to portray Camae, a mysterious maid at the Lorraine Motel where King was assasinated, but due to her child custody battles with her ex, she couldn't commit to the role.

Producers have announced they found a suitable replacement by casting Golden Globe winning actress Angela Bassett!

Halle Heading To Broadway?

We would like this pairing!

Rumor has it that Samuel L. Jackson has been secured in the role of Martin Luther King, Jr. in the upcoming Broadway play The Mountaintop with a source saying, "He was really good, and he likes the play a lot. We're pretty sure we've got him."

And for his co-star, producers are looking to land Halle Berry who has been interested in taking the stage.

Anika Noni Rose is also being considered for the role of the sexy chambermaid who visits Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Memphis hotel the night before he's assassinated.

Samuel L. Jackson Heading To Broadway?

It's possible!

Samuel L. Jackson was in New York City this week for a reading of a new play about Martin Luther King, Jr. called The Mountaintop by Katori Hall.

The play was first produced in London and is set to open on Broadway in the fall. The Mountaintop is set in King's Memphis motel room the day before he was assassinated and the imaginary exchange he has with a chambermaid.

Jackson could very well take on the role — they're offering him $50,000 a week!

We'd have a hard time turning that kind of cash down! Plus, Jackson was an usher at King's funeral in Atlanta so he does have quite the personal connection to the story.
