Madonna's W.E. Film Gets U.S. Distribution!

madonnas movie gets us distribution

It's on!

We are VERY excited to report that Madonna's U.S. directorial debut W.E. has been picked up by The Weinstein Company for domestic distribution.

As a reminder, the film's story is about "a modern-day New Yorker obsessed with the royal love story between Britain’s King Edward VIII and American divorcee Wallis Simpson."

The film was directed/co-written by Madge, and it stars Limitless' Abbie Cornish, Secret Diary of a Call Girl's James D'Arcy, and Never Let Me Go's Andrea Riseborough.

Here's what Madonna had to say about the distribution deal:

"W.E. is about the nature of true love, and the sacrifices and compromises that are often made. I've wanted to tell this story for a very long time, and bringing it to life has been a great adventure for me. I'm looking forward to working with Harvey and The Weinstein Company on this film."

Congratulations, Madge! As we've said before, we cannot wait to see this!

Are U pumped to hear that Madonna's W.E. is getting a U.S. release? Will U check it out when it hits theaters?

Yes! Scream 5 Is A Go!

harvey-weinstein-wants-a-scream-5

After the ending of the last one - which was pretty kick-ass, might we add - we have no idea how they could continue the series, but hey! If it doesn't suck, we're all for it!

Despite Scream 4 not doing as well financially as anyone had hoped in the US, The Weinstein Company chief Harvey Weinstein recently revealed the horror/comedy sequel has done so well overseas that a Scream 5 will almost certainly happen, and director Wes Craven will most likely be involved!

He explains:

"I'm sure [director Wes Craven is] going to do a sequel, I'm sure he's going to do a sequel. Foreign [sales] are so strong that we'll do over $100 million worldwide. It's at $90 now, with about five or six major countries to go and a lot of small ones. We'll probably do $110 million. I wish it would have been better domestically. But it's not the worst thing in the world that's ever happened. When I had my first conversation with [screenwriter Kevin Williamson] about this whole thing, he had an idea for a new trilogy. And I think that was Bob Weinstein's thing also about waiting so long — if there were to be a 'Scream 4,' there would also probably be a 'Scream 5' and a 'Scream 6' sooner or later so we could construct a new trilogy that kind of stood on its own."

Wow! We're certainly more than curious to see how they can manage to continue the story after Scream 4 - it seemed pretty nicely wrapped up!

But we're certain if anyone can do it, it's Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven!

We're ready to see what you have up your sleeves, guys!

What do U think? Do U want to see a Scream 5?

Weinstein VS Relativity: When Studios Get Catty!

relativity-weinstein-company.jpg

Meow!

Two of the biggest movie-making companies in the biz are at each other's throats over the distribution rights to the movie The Crow.

Basically, Relativity owns the rights to the movie right now, but agreed to hand over the rights to the Weinstein Company so they could distribute it. The Weinstein Company claims Relativity reneged on the deal because they are still upset over what they call the "mishandling" of Nine, the last flick the two companies collaborated on.

So, Relativity is asking for $20 million in damages from Weinstein for Nine because it performed so poorly and they are refusing to hand over The Crow, claiming the studios lacks the $70 million necessary to release the film.

And what does the Weinstein Company have to say about this whole mess? Let's check in with their lawyer Bert Fields and see! Bert says:

"The allegations of the motion are absolute garbage. This claim was about a totally different picture. It should have been made at the time of 'Nine,' not now because they broke the contract on 'The Crow.' It's total hogwash, and I cant wait to get Mr. Kavanaugh on the witness stand."

Someone's all fired up!!! The fight is on!!!

But all this fuss over The Crow? Seriously? we know it has a pretty devote following, but c'mon? $70 million???

Kevin Williamson Speaks Out About Scream 4! Why He Really Left The Project!

kevin-williamson-speaks-out-about-scream-4

Wow. The truth is finally out!

Ever since Scream 4 began production last year, there have been rumors of problems on set and massive re-writes, ultimately leading to writer Kevin Williamson dropping the project and refusing to discuss what went down publicly - until now!

In the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, the writer has finally opened up about what exactly went down between he and exec Bob Weinstein, what led to Scream 3 writer Ehren Kruger coming in to do re-writes, and if he still supports the long-awaited sequel!

He explains:

Oh, I got in a big fight with Bob Weinstein. God love him. I’ve worked with the man for 16 years out of my 16-year career. We get in some fights. We’re a very dysfunctional family over there at the Weinstein Co. We got into a massive fight creatively and we hugged it out and then we moved on. Oh just, you know — I felt strongly about this and he felt strongly about that and then I did this and that wasn’t right. Everyone was second-guessing everything because everyone wanted it to be so perfect. That’s exactly what happened. The one thing that Bob and I connect on very basically, why we’ve worked successfully together for 16 years, is we’re passionate. And no one is more passionate than Bob Weinstein. And it is that passion that allows you to make a movie where he will believe in you and trust in you and it’s also that passion that can cause fights and cause struggle. For 16 years, he’s kept me gainfully employed. I love him. Yes, we got into the fight, but then the big clincher came: Contractually, I had signed on to do The Vampire Diaries [Williamson's series for The CW]. You know, the little thing called first and second position? I was in first position to do Vampire Diaries and second position to do Scream 4. So guess what? It was a contractual thing. Warner Bros called up and they said, “Dude where are you? You have a show that’s on the air — where are you?” I did double duty as much as I could but The Vampire Diaries was also very important to me. But then one blog got a hold of it. It’s fine. What are you going to say? Yeah we got into a massive fight, but at the same time the fight ended and we hugged it out and we continued forward and we tried to make the best movie possible. But it was also very raw and sensitive.

I’m very supportive of the film and I hope everybody likes it. Not for a second would I dare do that to Wes Craven and Neve and Courteney and David and Bob Weinstein, who made my career. The reality is I did I worked very hard on the film. I did my darndnest to try and make a really good movie. I gave it my all. I wrote everything I thought I could write. Then they had to film it and I had to get back to The Vampire Diaires. So I think I really contributed. I hope it all turns out! My fingers are crossed!

Wow! He really lays it at all!

We can't imagine how much pressure must have been on their shoulders for this movie to be a hit, given the amount of fan dedication, so we can't blame them for having a blow-out over a creative difference!

Clearly, it happened how it happened, and they both have the movie's best interest at heart, so hopefully there isn't any lingering animosity and the movie turns out to be AMAZING! We having a feeling that it won't disappoint!

And check out the rest of Kevin's interview, and whether or not he's willing to do a Scream 5AFTER THE JUMP!
