But Johnny Depp just might.

It's been confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. has pulled out from taking the lead role in Disney's Wizard of Oz prequel project, Oz, the Great and Powerful. Now, the studio is in negotiations to get Johnny to step into the role - but it may cost them.

We're hearing this Oz project is a top priority for the Disney folks and they've been hoping to start production on the flick by the second half of the year. The script is all finished and director Sam Raimi is ready to lead on, but the decision to offer Johnny the part is a tricky one.

The timing is a little regrettable, especially for those who have been waiting for him to finally make The Lone Ranger flick. Right now, Johnny is scheduled to begin shooting Dark Shadows for Warner Bros. this spring. He's also attached to star as Tonto in The Lone Ranger, which has no start date just yet. If he commits to starring in Oz after shooting Dark Shadows, that means Ranger gets pushed back. That puts the rest of the talent in jeopardy.

We think it's time to dig deep for some Disney magic and find a way to make it all work out. Maybe someone can even manage to give Johnny a break somewhere in there too!

There are WAY too many Wizard of Oz-inspired movies coming out…and now there's one more.

We must say, though, we're intrigued by this one, which is titled Oz Wars, and is being helmed by The Nightmare Before Christmas animator Mike Johnson.

Here's what Johnson had to say about Oz Wars:

"[It's an] animated action-adventure story, but unlike most animated films, it's not just for kids. The Land of Oz will be reimagined using stop-motion to create a world that's dark, slick, sexy and dangerous."

A dark, sexy Oz, eh? Could be inneresting.

We suddenly see visions of pre-teenagers shedding off their Jack Skellington hoodies and flocking to Hot Topic to pick up new hoodies with anorexic, pale, black-haired Dorothy on them.
