Henry Cavill really is the Man of Steel!
To prepare for his role in Immortals, the actor transformed his body from what director Tarsem Singh initially described as "pudgy" to a lean, mean Greek fighting machine with only 6% body fat!
His role as Theseus in the action film required him to follow a strict diet and participate in grueling cardio-intense workouts every day at 4 a.m. in an effort to please his boss, who said:
"He was a little pudgy. I told him to get in shape while I got the script ready. I needed a swimmer’s physique that was really trim. I needed an eight-pack.”
Eager to succeed in Hollywood after getting rejected for career defining roles in Twilight and James Bond, Cavill trained with a group of stuntmen for 3 months to prepare for the film's epic battle scenes, saying:
“The body got harder and leaner, but the biggest change was the waist getting smaller—a lot smaller.”
Although the workouts could be tough on the weekends, the rising star admits the hard work paid off and he learned a valuable life lesson, explaining:
“It’s a great feeling to be in shape and strong. I don’t mean that in an arrogant way at all. But you go to the gym and train hard every day and you learn how far you can push yourself. That becomes rewarding in itself."
At least he killed two birds with one stone and his physique was already in Superman shape when he auditioned for the Zach Snyder reboot!
We certainly can't wait to see that hawt bod flying faster than a speeding bullet when the blockbuster superhero flick hits screens in 2013 and we'll look forward to seeing it on the big screen for years to come!
