Can't a hard working gal catch a break?!

Apparently not!

After an exhausting week full of appearances, award shows, and partaying, Sofia Vergara was trying to get in a little beauty rest before her sneaky co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson caught her in the snoozing act!

The red-headed actor took a photo of his Modern Family co-star sleeping with a tissue on her face, and the whole thing snowballed from there!

Obviously people who need sleep can take a note from Sofia and cover their faces with a soft tissue to snooze in public.

At least you won't have embarrassing sleeping photos floating around the interwebz without your knowledge! LOLz!

No Scientific Evidence Colon Cleansers Improve Health

Colon Cleanser

Yes, that's right. You may have been pumping water up your rectum in vain.

After reviewing 20 different studies on colon cleansers published over the last decade, scientists have found no evidence that they actually improve your health.

On the contrary, scientists found more evidence that they can actually be HARMFUL and associated with bloating, vomiting, cramping, renal failure and even death.

Yikes!

These popular procedures — whether undergone with the help of a professional or with some kind of a colon cleanse kit at home — are meant to clear your body of toxins that accumulate in the colon, which can spur a variety of ills.

However, the American Medical Association said that the "procedure was invalid" in the early 20th century and many modern concoctions don't require FDA approval.

Sources have reported that having a "colon hydrotherapist" pump water in and out of the rectum with a rubber tube has the potential to damage the colon tissue.

Regardless of the study's findings, there are still those who swear by the benefits of a good ol' colon cleanse and insist more studies are needed before people condemn it.

The choice is yours, but make sure you go to a licensed professional if you do decide to opt for a cleanse.

New Study Shows Skinny Does Not Always Mean Healthy

body fat study

A new study has proven that skinny doesn't necessarily mean healthy.

While it is well known that excess fat can lead to heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure, it isn't well known that fat can sometimes be hiding in places other than underneath our skin!

Research involving more than 75,000 people has found that lean people with a specific genetic variant were at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes and heart disease despite their lower body fat.

Evidence is showing that fat under the skin doesn't contribute to the development of such disorders as much as fat deposited in deeper tissues and organs like the liver.

Unfortunately for some, a specific gene may curse their bodies to store visceral fat in deep tissue as opposed to under the skin, as study author Ruth Loos explained:

“We think the gene we found causes an error such that it's harder for these people to store fat under the skin. So the fat is stored elsewhere, around the organs and in muscle where it disturbs the normal function of these organs.”

People possessing the gene often showed normal BMI measurements, but consistently had higher levels of blood cholesterol and were more likely to show resistance to processing insulin, a sign of diabetes.

The study highlights the importance for EVERYONE, regardless of size and weight, to regularly have their blood pressure and cholesterol levels checked!

Excessive Exercise In Old Age Can Cause Heart Damage

Excessive Exercise In Old Age Can Cause Heart Damage

Just like that old saying says, “Too much of a good thing can cause significant damage to your heart.”

Or something like that.

A recent study found that overly-strenuous exercise at an old age (over 50) can actually cause damage to your heart. In other words, too much exercise can harm you.

Specifically, older men who trained too hard — for something like a marathon — were found to have heart muscle scarring.

Basically, once you start getting older, it’s important to pay attention to how hard your are pushing yourself. You can still maintain fitness without running marathons!
