UPDATE 12:01 P.M. EST: The death toll has risen to 10 with the tragic deaths of an elderly couple who just celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary.
What absolutely devastating news.
As you've probably noticed, 2015 has had one of the weirdest Winters ever as the competing El Nino Southern Oscillation and Arctic Oscillation have kept America relatively warm and dry.
But this weather phenomenon unfortunately took a terrifying turn on Wednesday when a cluster of freak tornadoes tore through part of the Southern United States, killing at least eight in the process.
The late December storms left four dead in Mississippi, including a 7-year-old boy, three in Tennessee, and another in Arkansas, but that death toll could rise as workers continue to address the damage early Thursday.
A staggering 14 tornadoes were reported, with one Northern Mississippi twister traveling 150 miles on the ground… potentially the largest ever on record for the month.
Our thoughts are with everyone who just lost their homes or loved ones during what's supposed to be a happy time of year.
