Darren Criss Apologizes For The 'Severity' Of His Caitlyn Jenner Remark During A Recent Hedwig Performance!

darren criss apologizes to caitlyn jenner

UPDATE 2:26 PM EST: To add some clarity to the matter, let's talk about context. The context of the line during the show is of Hedwig describing her perfume line she has — that the perfume is for everyone. The 'whatever you are' piece, she actually points to someone in the audience. That is where the confusion is and it is hard to decipher based off that tweet.

On Friday, Darren Criss formally apologized to Caitlyn Jenner on Facebook after he joked about the reality star's transition during a performance this week of Broadway's Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

One attendee noted on Twitter:

"Tonight, Darren Criss, as HEDWIG said, 'man, woman, moman, wan, Bruce Jenner, whatever you are' and it was very distasteful."

Though his comments were made while playing the character Hedwig — the 28-year-old's since been accused of being transphobic.

This backlash has since inspired the Glee actor to comment on the remark.

Hmm, very inneresting.

ICYMI: President Barack Obama shut down a heckler at Wednesday night's LGBT Pride Month celebration at the White House.

The heckler was a transgender woman and undocumented immigrant named Jennicet Gutiérrez. Whoa!

Miz Gutiérrez is a member of the Not One More Campaign which opposes the administration's deportation policies and was at the event as the guest of a friend who had a spare ticket.

Transgender Playboy Model Tula Cossey Shares Her Thoughts On Caitlyn Jenner

From one icon to another!

While Caitlyn Jenner's cover photo for Vanity Fair was a huge step forward for the transgender community, another Trans model actually had a famous shoot of her own three decades earlier!

Tula Cossey was a model who was forced into obscurity when the public found out that she was assigned the male gender at birth.

However, after Tula came to terms with her true self, she got back into the business when she became the first transgender model to pose for Playboy way back in 1991.

Well now Tula is talking about Caitlyn Jenner's role as a transgender icon and how times are changing for how society treats queer individuals, saying:

"[She's] been such an incredible athlete and hero, with all those raging male hormones running through [her] body. [She] is obviously going through a lot of pain and suffering. I hope [she] finds [her] happiness, but it's going to be tough.

Tula went on to say that it was simply too early in the trans movement back in the '90s when she tried to make it as a model, but she's glad to be living in a world where people like Caitlyn and Laverne Cox can be so open about their identities.

"I feel like I was probably so many years too early. Laverne Cox is so comfortable talking about it. It's the changing times. You used to see a gay friend on a TV show only because it was fashionable. It's not fashionable. It's reality. It's the way it is."

We're sorry you had to go through so many struggles, Tula!

But we bet Caitlyn, Laverne, and every other Trans individual are thankful that you were such a major part of Trans history.
