Uber Orders 'Urgent' Investigation After Former Employee Slams Company With Allegations Of Ignoring Sexual Harassment & Sexism Complaints!

Uber

Susan Fowler worked as an Engineer at Uber from November 2015 to December 2016 — a year she claims was "strange, fascinating, and slightly horrifying" after the company refused to do anything when she went to HR with several complaints about sexual harassment and sexism in the workplace.

According to Fowler's blog posted on Sunday, her first manager at the company sexually harassed her via online chats — but nothing was ever done, despite her handing over screenshots:

"My new manager sent me a string of messages over company chat. He was in an open relationship, he said, and his girlfriend was having an easy time finding new partners but he wasn't. He was trying to stay out of trouble at work, he said, but he couldn't help getting in trouble, because he was looking for women to have sex with. It was clear that he was trying to get me to have sex with him, and it was so clearly out of line that I immediately took screenshots of these chat messages and reported him to HR."

#DeleteUber Worked!!!

Travis Kalanick steps down from advisory role.

Power to the people!!!

Uber CEO Travis Kalanick is reportedly stepping down from his position on Donald Trump's economic advisory council, according to a memo sent to employees Thursday.

The memo, obtained by the New York Times, states:

"Earlier today I spoke briefly with the president about the immigration executive order and its issues for our community. I also let him know that I would not be able to participate on his economic council. Joining the group was not meant to be an endorsement of the president or his agenda but unfortunately it has been misinterpreted to be exactly that."

Ha!!! Looks like the #DeleteUber movement worked!

As you may know, the #DeleteUber movement began when Drumpf first issued the immigration ban, which blocked people (even those with green cards and visas!!!) from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the USA.

As a response to the ban, the New York Taxi Workers Alliance issued an hour-long strike as protesters gathered at JFK International Airport in NYC last weekend. However, Uber continued to offer rides during this time, prompting many to become enraged at the company for seemingly profiting off the strike.

Thus, #DeleteUber began to trend on Twitter, and the company took an even bigger PR blow when competitor Lyft pledged to donate $1 million to the ACLU over the course of four years. BURN!!!

It was about as big a PR nightmare as could be expected, and now it seems like all the backlash has been fruitful, since Kalanick is no longer one of the orange blob's minions.

Awesome.

Don't ever let anybody tell you protesting and social pressure don't work!

TIME magazine's Person of the Year is here!

On Wednesday, it was revealed that German Chancellor Angela Merkel was named by the magazine as Person of the Year for her leadership skills surrounding the Syrian refugees and the Greek debt crisis. Color us impressed!

Editor Nancy Gibbs shared in a statement:

"Leaders are tested only when people don't want to follow. For asking more of her country than most politicians would dare, for standing firm against tyranny as well as expedience and for providing steadfast moral leadership in a world where it is in short supply, Angela Merkel is TIME's Person of the Year."

Well said! In fact, Miz Merkel will be the first woman to receive the Person of the Year recognition — though other women have been recognized as part of a group. Girl power!

However, you'll be shocked to learn that Donald Trump joined the Black Lives Matter movement and Uber CEO Travis Kalanick as one of the other finalists. Wait, really??

Be sure to ch-ch-check out the magazine's full reasoning behind the choice in Miz Gibbs' Today show interview (below)!
