From one icon to another!
Tula Cossey was a model who was forced into obscurity when the public found out that she was assigned the male gender at birth.
However, after Tula came to terms with her true self, she got back into the business when she became the first transgender model to pose for Playboy way back in 1991.
Well now Tula is talking about Caitlyn Jenner's role as a transgender icon and how times are changing for how society treats queer individuals, saying:
"[She's] been such an incredible athlete and hero, with all those raging male hormones running through [her] body. [She] is obviously going through a lot of pain and suffering. I hope [she] finds [her] happiness, but it's going to be tough.
Tula went on to say that it was simply too early in the trans movement back in the '90s when she tried to make it as a model, but she's glad to be living in a world where people like Caitlyn and Laverne Cox can be so open about their identities.
"I feel like I was probably so many years too early. Laverne Cox is so comfortable talking about it. It's the changing times. You used to see a gay friend on a TV show only because it was fashionable. It's not fashionable. It's reality. It's the way it is."
We're sorry you had to go through so many struggles, Tula!
But we bet Caitlyn, Laverne, and every other Trans individual are thankful that you were such a major part of Trans history.
