Are they REALLY student athletes? Or are they athletes who happen to be competing at a school?

That debate has been burning stronger than ever recently in the world of college sports. Football is a BILLION dollar industry for colleges around the country but unlike the NFL, players on the field don’t see a dime of the money being raked in because they are students, not pros.

Some academic whistleblowers however beg to differ that they should even be considered students! Just look at the essay on Rosa Parks that a UNC football player turned in

Barack Obama Revels In His College Days With Jimmy Fallon On Late Night!

It's entirely debatable whether or not Barack Obama is a one of the best presidents ever, but he's most definitely one of the coolest!

The leader of our country stopped by NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday night and talked about a variety of topics. However, since the episode was being filmed at the University of North Carolina, education was a MAJOR talking point.

Not only did Fallon surprise the Prez with a picture from his college days, in which he's rockin' a very stylish afro, but the two talked (above) about the value of higher education.

Unfortunately, the cost of college outweighs the value for some people and to top it off, congress is considering doubling the interest rates of student loans.

Then there is the most recent White House scandal involving the Secret Service, so Fallon obvi asked about it and we are proud to say that Obama handled the controversial subject with class. Watch him discuss the scandal and answer Twitter questions from U.S. citizens … AFTER THE JUMP!

Fast 'Food Swamps' Contributing To Obesity

Did you know the United States is sprawling with areas that the U.S. Department of Agriculture calls "food deserts"? There are low-income regions scattered across the country without "ready access" to grocery stores.

Instead, these folks may be relying on fast food restaurants, that now outnumber the amount of grocery stores 5 to 1, for most of their meals! A study from the University of North Carolina believes this may be one of the biggest problems contributing to America's bloated obesity rate!

Researchers call these areas populated with an excess of fast food and a lack of fresh supermarkets "food swamps".

The same study that recognizes these swamps of fast food adds that simply building more grocery stores closer to low-income housing won't solve the obesity problem either. Study author Barry Popkin said:

“It’s simplistic thinking that if you put fruits and vegetables there, they’ll buy it. You have to encourage it, you need advertising, you need support.”

We also may need some fast food rehab to encourage America to ditch the widely popular high-calorie, salty diet.

Studies have found that gobbling down too much fast food can mimic the effects of drug addiction. Eating too much of it can actually prevent the brain from triggering the release of dopamine, a chemical responsible for pleasure, so fast food addicts need more and more to feel the chemical's effect!

That's kind of scary!

Don't become an addict by letting fast food corporations decide your diet for you. If you live in a "food desert" we suggest making the trip to the nearest supermarket to stock up on healthier food to avoid becoming a sad statistic!
