indiana lifts same sex marriage ban

A federal district judge declared Indiana's ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional Wednesday. Yes! That's some equal protection under the law!

And since judge Richard Young decided not to issue a stay on his ruling, same sex couples can start getting married today! Double yes!

Marion County Clerk Beth White in Indianapolis started issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples today and dozens of same sex couples showed up!

The court ruled that there was significant harm dealt to couples who were denied the right to marry the person that they loved! Excellent!

However, some of the clerks in Indiana's smaller counties have decided to hold off on issuing marriage licenses saying they seek direction on how to proceed from here.

Hopefully, they'll receive their direction ASAP! Congrats, citizens of Indiana!

Pennsylvania Judge Strikes Down Ban On Same-Sex Marriages, Sends It To The "Ash Heap Of History"!

Pennsylvania judges overturns same sex marriage ban unconstitutional hooray

Philly used to be the city of brotherly love, but now it's the city of sisterly love, too!

That's because a federal judge in Pennsylvania struck down a ban on same-sex marriage today, declaring the super-intolerant denial of rights to be unconstitutional.

Woo hoo! This is absolutely AH-Mazing news!! Now it's legal for same-sex couples to marry in every Northeastern state!

In his decision, Judge John E. Jones III of Federal District Court — an appointee of GWB back in 2002 — acknowledged that it was time to embrace acceptance. He decalred:

Texas' Same Sex Marriage Ban STRUCK DOWN! Federal Judge Rules It Unconstitutional!

Filed under: Gay Gay GayLegal MattersPolitik

texas gay same sex marriage ban unconstitutional federal judge ruling

Texas is unfortunately one of many states with a same sex marriage ban. But thanks to a decision by Federal Judge Orlando Garcia, it may not be much longer.

His Honor ruled on Wednesday that the law is unconstitutional, mostly because it served no "legitimate governmental purpose."

That's another way of saying it's a bunch of malarky! Srsly, how does people who love each other getting the same benefits as you do affect you?

Justice may be blind, but today at least it isn't dumb! But don't book that Texas dude ranch for your nuptials just yet.

The ruling won't go into effect immediately, and during the lengthy appeals process, the law will remain on the books.

Sadly, the debate will rage on deep in the heart of Texas.

AH-MAZING!

A federal judge just struck down Oklahoma's ban against same-sex marriage and we think this is a huge victory for those who support everyone's right to love!!!

In U.S. District Judge Terrence Kern's 68-page ruling, he said he struck down the law — originally passed in 2004 — because it violated our U.S. Constitution's equal protection clause!

He admitted the ban was "an arbitrary, irrational exclusion of just one class of Oklahoma citizens from a governmental benefit" and then wrote:

Proposition 8 Ruling: Why The Supreme Court Effectively Killed The Anti-Equality Marriage Law

proposition 8 ruling explained doma struck down supreme court unconstitutional same sex marriage tolerance yay

By now, you've hopefully heard the AH-Mazing news!

Today the U.S. Supreme Court declared the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional and effective ended the rule of California's Proposition 8 which prohibited the state from recognizing any marriage that wasn't between a man and woman.

The reason for the death of DOMA was simple, the Justices decided (5-4) that it directly violated rights guaranteed by the Fifth Amendment's "due process" clause which prevents the government from unjustly depriving any citizen of "life, liberty, or property."

The Supreme Court's ruling on Prop 8, however, was a tad more complicated.

SCOTUS never confirmed whether or not Prop 8 was unconstitutional, but they nevertheless

Homophobic DOMA Ruled Unconstitutional!

gay marriage washington

Just another victory on the road of LGBT equality!!

By unanimous vote, a Federal Appeals Court in Boston has found the Defense of Marriage Act, which basically shuns gay marriage, to be completely unconstitutional.

Those who support DOMA insist Congress should adhere to the "traditional" definition of marriage and define the terms necessary for the federal hand-outs that come with it.

But the court ruled that to define marriage "as a union between man and woman" would deprive same-sex couples the same rights granted to heterosexual partners.

And clearly, that's an equality no-no! Discrimination is NOT what America stands for!

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley states:

Discharged Gay Troops Have Trouble Re-enlisting After DADT Repeal

discharged troops have trouble reenlisting after dadt repeal

This is seriously not cool.

While we're of course thrilled that Don't Ask Don't Tell has been repealed, we're NOT thrilled to hear that gay former troops who want to re-enlist are having a lot of trouble doing so!

Here are some of the issues that these former troops are being forced to contend with:
