Josh Hutcherson may have introduced co-star Liam Hemsworth to White Castle while filming, but he had to maintain a strict high-protein diet and intense exercise regimen before traveling to Kentucky to shoot The Hunger Games.
At a press junket for the film, which is hitting theaters on Friday, the young actor said he had to endure a lot more changes in his life than the color his hair, explaining:
"I had to put on a lot of weight, so I was in the process of eating chicken, eggs and protein and all that fun stuff."
The fun stuff he's referring to is probably the intense workouts he completed five days a week with his ex-Navy Seal trainer Logan Hood. The 19-year-old revealed that the "unconventional" training sessions left him "sore for four days afterwards." Since the duo, along with Hemsworth, worked out the majority of the week, he was "in a constant state of soreness!"
Hemsworth backed up his co-stars claims when he chimed in to add:
"I worked out with him for an hour and literally I would have to lay down for 20 minutes because I couldn't drive away. It would be dangerous to drive away straight afterwards! I was going to pass out."
So what was so tough about this workout? Hood had his clients "flipping tires in the parking lot and slamming baseball bats against body bags," which worked out muscles "you didn't even know you had." At the end of the day, the intense training sessions left Josh wondering, "How am I possibly this sore?"
It looks like all of his hard work will pay off though because analysts are predicting that the film is going to be a box office smash!
