She just can't catch a break with this one, can she?!

Rihanna is once again facing legal trouble for the music video for her single, S&M, just four months after David LaChapelle filed a lawsuit claiming she ripped off his work!

Apparently, 19-year-old Phillipp Paulus has alleged that a sequence in the clip, which featured the pop star held against a wall with plastic wrape and black tape in X-marks, directly rips off a series of fashion photos he did called Paperworld!

They attempted to settle with Universal Music Group, but after the agreement fell apart, Paulus now plans to sue.

His lawyer, Philip Jakober, explains:

Tommy Hilfiger's Ready To Rock With Universal

Tommy Hilfiger's breaking into the music biz, but it's not what you think.

On Wednesday, Universal Music Group announced the American designer has signed on to develop rock n' roll-inspired clothing.

Tommy will work with the label's artists to create new branded merchandise, which will be sold in high-end boutiques and department store this fall.

Inneresting.

This has the potential to be amazing or cheesy. We certainly hope it's not the latter.

Supreme Court Doesn't Care About Eminem Legal Dramz

supreme court doesnt care about eminem legal drama

Looks like they'll have to figure this out somewhere else!

Supreme Court has refused to get involved in a dispute between Eminem's former prod company, F.B.T. productions, and Universal Music Group.

The drama has to do with downloads of Em's songs & ringtones.

According to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, F.B.T. Productions LLC's contract "entitled Eminem and his producers to a 50-50 split with Universal for recordings licensed to digital distributors such as Apple Inc.'s iTunes."

F.B.T. and Em had been paid 12 percent of sales, which is the "agreed-upon rate for physical albums."

Hopefully they're able to resolve everything as painlessly as possible sans Supreme Court.

Will The Supreme Court Decide On Eminem Royalties Case?

eminem-royalty-case-supreme-court.jpg

That's what Universal Music Group, Aftermath, and Interscope Records want.

The company that discovered Eminem, F.B.T. Prods, was awarded a higher royalty rate on digital downloads and ringtones back in September when they won an appeal to the Ninth Circuit that gave them 50% of royalties on Eminem's music. The rates usually run between 12 and 20%, however because the justices saw digital downloads as "licenses" rather than traditional sales, F.B.T. was awarded more.

So now, UMG wants to take the case to the Supreme Court, filing a writ of certiorari that petitions for a hearing.

According to the petition, UMG wants the Supreme Court to decide on whether or not F.B.T. was allowed to appeal the royalties case in district court after a full jury trial had already taken place.

This would be a first for the music industry as it would help decide on how royalties for digital music would be handled in the future.

What do U think? Should the case be taken to Supreme Court?

Judge Orders Lindsay Lohan To Court!

lindsay-lohan-ordered-to-court-to-settle-with-photographer-over-6126-photos.jpg

But this time it's not for violating her probation.

On Monday, U.S. District Judge Jay Ghandi ordered Lindsay Lohan to appear in court on Tuesday for a settlement conference with photographer Scott Nathan.

Back in April the photog filed a lawsuit against the 6126 designer and Universal Music Group after he discovered copyrighted photos taken for her clothing line in 2008 were used to promote LiLo's single "Bossy".

In exchange for the photos, Nathan was promised 1% of profits, which he claims he never received.

Scott's lawyer Phillip Nevinny says if settlement talks fall through, they're prepared to take them to court for copyright infringement, fraudulent business practices, breach of contract and other alleged wrongdoing.

Ouch.

Nevinny adds since everyone is technically supposed to show up, it should be "interesting" to see what Judge Ghandi will do.

Reports Claim That Chezza Landed A US Record Deal!

cheryl-cole-reportedly-signs-us-record-deal-with-universal

We doubt that this is true, but DAMN! We wish it were!

Reports are circulating that execs at Universal Music Group flew Cheryl Cole out to El Lay this past weekend to sign a £6 million - almost $10 million - record deal to break into the US music scene!

Sources claim that both Simon Cowell and frequent collaborator will.i.am were instrumental in the deal - which includes a US release of her album Messy Little Raindrops and two more after that - and friend Derek Hough was present for moral support!

The insider explains:

"Cheryl got a call from some very senior people at Universal saying they wanted to see her. They are the kind of people who when they say, 'Jump', you ask, 'How high?' So she jumped on a plane and went to LA for 36 hours. Derek was there to ferry her to and fro and give her support as these big execs can be quite scary."

We think this would sound a whole lot more legitimate if she were confirmed as a judge on the US X Factor, but if it is true, congratulations, bb! This is HUGE!

And if it's not true, don't worry! It's only a matter of time before it does happen!

What do U think?? Do U want to see Chezza hit American mainstream??

Eminem Wins Royalty Lawsuit

Eminem's gonna get paid!

A federal appeals court has found that Eminem's former production company F.B.T Productions LLC is entitled to royalties by Universal Music Group (UMG) for music downloaded over iTunes or sold as cellphone ringtones.

Last year, a federal jury ruled against F.B.T., however, the appeals court ruled on Friday that the contracts between UMG and F.B.T. "unambiguously applies to permanent downloads and master-tones," which entitles Eminem and his producers to a 50-50 split for recordings licensed to iTunes and other digital distributors.

This ruling could potentially affect how record labels and artists make financial deals in the future. Very inneresting!
