Forever 21's Vendors May Not Be Following Labor Laws

It wasn't enough that Forever 21 was already sued by its employees early this year.

But now the U.S. Department of Labor found the company to be working with vendors that don't pay their worker's overtime or minimum wage!!

On Thursday, the department announced that the retailer has failed to provide docs from a subpoena that was issued on August 16, which would show their labor practices from suppliers and apparel contractors.

Now, the department is going one step further

The Obama Administration Fails The Gays Yet Again!

white-house-rejects-new-york-senator-chuck-schumers-reccomendation-that-openly-gay-daniel-alter-serve-on-the-us-district-court

We're starting to feel like a broken record here with our consistent disappointment!

Despite being recommended for the position by New York Senator Chuck Schumer, openly gay Daniel Alter's nomination for federal bench in the US District Court has been rejected by the White House!

According to the Washington Blade:

“But informed sources told the Washington Blade that the White House rejected Alter’s nomination because of remarks he reportedly made regarding a case challenging inclusion of the phrase ‘under God’ in the Pledge of Allegiance. In addition, the White House reportedly objected to remarks that Alter made suggesting that merchants not wish shoppers ‘Merry Christmas’ during the holidays.”

So they threw Schumer's recommendation, which is standard procedure and tradition, out just because Alter supports a separation of Church and State?!

Unbelievable.

This nonsense needs to STOP! And soon!

Thoughts??

Oprah Settles Lawsuit To Hush Up Former Employee

oprah pays to keep secrets hushed

After The Enquirer posted some unsavory details of a federal lawsuit that Oprah was involved in, she rapidly settled the case out of court.

Here are some of the allegations in the lawsuit:

-Oprah passed out prescription meds on her private jet

-Oprah's BFF Gayle King slept with a male flight attendant on the jet

-Oprah went on racist rants

The suit was filed by a flight attendant on Oprah's private jet, Corrine Gheris, who claimed that Oprah wrongfully fired her for "inappropriate intimate behavior" with the chief pilot of the jet.

Gheris sought $75,000+ in damages from Oprah's production company, and it looks like she has been appeased.

Here's what legal documents that were filed with the U.S. District Court in Chicago on Oct 5th said:

"Parties agree to the terms of settlement. Stipulation of Dismissal to be filed with the District Court."

Here's what a source had to say about the settlement:

"Oprah clearly did not want any more of her dirty laundry exposed as part of this nasty lawsuit. She wanted it to go away - and that's exactly what happened!"

Good thing she settled that lawsuit. Sounds like this could have gotten really nasty really quickly!

What do U think about the allegations against Oprah?

$1 Billion Lawsuit Against YouTube Dismissed!

2005_youtube3jb.jpg

Score one for YouTube!

Yesterday, Judge Louis Stanton of the U.S. District Court of New York dismissed the $1 billion lawsuit from Viacom against Google and its video-sharing site, claiming that it complies with copyright laws upheld in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act!

Basically, Viacom wanted to be able to patrol YouTube themselves and tell users to take done video content that they owned, because they didn't think the internet service was doing it properly, and furthermore encouraging its users to continue to violate copyright laws. However, in Stanton's 30-page ruling, he essentially tells Viacom to eff off and asserts that YouTube is within compliance of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act!

We're sure there will be an appeal, so YouTube - keep being awesome!

What do U think?? Should Viacom's suit be dismissed??

Constance McMillen Brings Her School District To Court To Fight For Her Rights!!

ap100311144412jb.jpg

It has begun!

As we've reported, Constance McMillen is the Mississippi teenager who has been fighting for her right to bring her girlfriend as a date to her high school's prom. She has made national headlines for her bravery and grace during a very public ordeal, and is now testifying in a US district court case against her school district!!

Of course, NOW the school officials are claiming they thought about canceling the prom even BEFORE Constance came forward with her request!

In the proceedings yesterday, Superintendent Teresa McNeece testified that they were concerned about the use of drugs or alcohol at a school-sponsored prom, so they were hesitant to hold the event from the getgo.

YEAH RIGHT! Like possible drug and alcohol use has ever stopped most high schools from throwing proms before??

She also attempts to blame McMillen for causing massive disruptions with her request.

"We were being hounded every day. Our students were being hounded. We were having a tough time of any bell-to-bell instruction."

Of course, during her cross-examination, apparently McNeece could not give any specific as to what those disruptions were. We're guessing because there WERE NONE.

The American Civil Liberties Union, who represent Constance and are behind the lawsuit, claimed in court that the school district has violated the teen's First Amendment right and claim that the outpour of resentment and anger was only AFTER the school cancelled prom, not while Constance made her request.

McMillen claims that the day prom was cancelled she had to leave school because the backlash from her peers was so intense:

"There were so many dirty looks. A lot of people didn't like me very much."

Poor thing!

US District Judge Glen H. Davidson has not specified when he will make his final ruling on the matter.

In the meantime, parents have reportedly been organizing a prom for the students, but Constance claims she has not been told about it!

Nice! What a great example to set for your kids, folks!

Luckily, the ACLU is organizing its own prom on May 8th that is open for everyone but specifically geared toward other gay students!

Good! Everyone deserves a High School prom!

Your courage has truly touched us, Constance!! Keep that head held high, you're in our thoughts!!
