Prince William, Kate Middleton, And The Royal Family Honor Fallen Soldiers On Remembrance Sunday.

prince-william-kate-middleton-royal-family-remembrance-sunday

Just like we in the United States honor our armed service veterans this weekend on Veterans Day, the United Kingdom has Remembrance Sunday, which is held on anniversary of the end of hostilities in the First World War and celebrates the men and women who have fought for their country!

And in honor the occasion this year, Prince William and Duchess Kate were both present, along with Queen Elizabeth II and Sophie Countess of Wessex at the military-style ceremony held at Whitehall today in London!

Ch-ch-check out photos of the royals as they laid down wreaths to honor the deceased (above and below).

May we never forget the sacrifices these brave men and women have made for their respective countries when called to duty, all to ensure our safety and prosperity.

President Obama Honors Veterans At Arlington National Cemetery

barack obama honors veterans

This is lovely.

In observation of Veterans Day, President Barack Obama visited Arlington National Cemetery, where he helped place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the tomb, it was placed in the cemetery in memory of American service members who died for their country, but whose remains were never found.

Thanks for paying your respects, Obama. We know the country appreciates it.

Garfield Creator Issues Apology Over Offensive Veterans Day Comic Strip!

garfield-creator-jim-davis-issues-apology-over-offensive-veterans-day-comic-strip

Somebody is totally getting fired over this.

Yesterday, a Garfield comic strip was published (above) that seemed to imply that the holiday Veterans Day was 'National Stupid Day,' offending members of the armed forces and pretty much anyone else, so creator Jim Davis has issued a statement that claims that this is just a really unfortunate case of bad timing!

It reads:

"Dear Friends, Fans and Veterans,

In what has to be the worst timing ever, the strip that runs in today's paper seems to be making a statement about veterans. It absolutely, positively has nothing to do with this important day of remembrance. It was written almost a year ago and I had no idea when writing it that it would appear today—of all days. I do not use a calendar that lists holidays and other notable days so when this strip was put in the queue, I had no idea it would run on Veterans Day. What are the odds? You can bet I'll have a calendar that lists everything by my side in the future. You'd have to go a long way to find someone who was more proud and grateful for what our Veterans have done for all of us. Please accept my apologies for any offense today's Garfield may have created. It was unintentional and regrettable."

He makes a pretty good case for himself! Poor guy must have been blindsided when he realized what had happened!

However, this is still a pretty big oversight! Hopefully people will pay more attention to the content that's being published on days like yesterday!

Thoughts??

Happy Veterans Day!

In honor of Veterans Day, Bruce Willis hosted a party aboard the Navy aircraft carrier the USS Intrepid for hundreds of the men and women who have bravely served our country!

What a wonderful gesture!

We stand behind our troops 100%, and would like to take this time to thank them personally for everything that they have done, and continue to do, to keep our country safe and free! It may have some problems, and some of them are certainly serious, but we're still proud of America and our thoughts go out to everyone out there who fight for it!

Hollister Makes Employee Remove Remembrance Poppy

hollister-employee-required-to-remove-poppy-pin.jpg

This is a new low.

Abercrombie & Fitch' sister company Hollister forced one of their UK employees to remove her poppy pin because it wasn't part of the brand's "uniform".

Seriously?

For those not in the know, the UK & Canada celebrate Veterans Day as Remembrance Day. In the weeks leading up to November 11th, poppies are worn to honor war veterans.

Harriet Phipps, the 18 year old Hollister employee, was wearing hers for a friend and grandfather. She told the BBC:

"We provide an image of what the clothes would look like for the customers, and because the poppy is not uniform I was told I should not wear it. It’s respect. These are people who fought for our country. Why can’t I just wear a little red poppy?"

A&F quickly went into damage control mode and issued the following statement:

"As an American company that has been in existence since 1892, we very much appreciate the sacrifices of both British and American servicemen and women in the World Wars and in military conflicts that continue to this day. Our company policy is currently to permit associates to wear a poppy as a token of this appreciation on Remembrance Day. In the future, we will revisit, in light of local custom, whether to extend the policy to the days or weeks leading up to Remembrance Day."

Good idea, Aber.
