How To Tone Abs Without Losing Your Body's Curves

Everyone wants a six pack, but not everyone wants to lose their curves! In fact, thicker legs or a bigger butt can sometimes be a person's sexiest feature!

FitPerez reader Alex wants to tone up her midsection, but be careful not to lose too much weight on other parts of her body in the process! She wrote to celebrity trainer Jennifer Cohen for some help, asking:

Hi Jennifer,

Quick question for you - I have been doing lounges, crunches and squats. I want firm abs while keeping a thick lower body-thighs and butt.

What can I do to keep a thick lower body while firming my abs?

According to Jennifer:

2 things you need to remember - you can't spot reduce and you have to work with your body type.

You can firm up your abs by making healthy diet choices and doing overall cardio workouts to reduce your body fat, and doing core-strengthening exercises, like crunches and push-ups, with twisting-motion exercises to target your waistline. For your lower thighs and butt, lunges will keep those muscles toned and active. Again, it all depends on the body you're working with - you want to aim for a healthy, fit life, and to look like the best YOU.

Diet Soda May Be A Diabetes Risk AND Linked To Weight Gain

Diet soda

Bad news for diet soda lovers.

A study presented at an American Diabetes Association meeting this week showed that diet soda actually RAISED blood sugar in mice prone to diabetes AND led to a larger waistline in humans.

Researchers running the San Antonio Longitudinal Study of Aging collected height, weight, waist circumference and diet soda intake data from 474 elderly people, then followed up with them an average of 9.5 years later.

Those who drank ONE diet soda a day had developed waist circumferences 70% greater than those who did not drink diet soda. People drinking at least TWO diet sodas a day blew up 500% more than those not drinking diet soda.

In a second study, researchers fed aspartame — an artificial sweetener found in diet soda — to diabetes prone mice for three months and found the animals had higher blood glucose levels than those not fed the sweetener.

Although we're not experts, we're leaning toward agreeing with researcher Helen P. Hazuda, Ph.D., who came to the conclusion:

"Data from this and other prospective studies suggest that the promotion of diet sodas and artificial sweeteners as healthy alternatives may be ill-advised. They may be free of calories but not of consequences."

If you're looking to cut calories, why not just cut soda entirely from your diet and replace it with another 0 calorie option — water!

Rob McElhenney Gains 50 Pounds For New Season Of It's Always Sunny

Rob McEllehney 50 pounds

He would do that, wouldn't he?

Rob McElhenney, the creator and co-star of the hit show It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, has gained 50 pounds for the upcoming 7th season!

Because he thought it would be funny!

His character, Mac, consistently expresses his pride over his shapely physique in the show, so Rob thought it would be funny to play him this season as a fat guy.

Castmate Charlie Day, star of the upcoming film Horrible Bosses, feared for Mac's personal health during the process, as he said:

“It’s been disgusting to watch him go through with this adventure. We were a little on the fence about it for his own personal health and safety, but it has definitely made Mac a lot funnier.”

Normally, we'd have to question how funny his wife thinks the new cushion for the pushin' is, but since Kaitlin Olson ALSO plays a character on the show, we imagine she was in on it too.

We can't wait to see the ridiculous plot line that has developed from Rob's wider waistline and what the rest of the Always Sunny gang has to say about it!

Check out more pics of Rob McElhenney's new bod as he shoots an episode below!

Kelly Osbourne: "I’m Not Getting Fat"

Kelly Osbourne: "I’m Not Getting Fat"

All eyes are on Kelly Osbourne’s waistline!

After losing a ton of weight over the last year or so, Kelly Osbourne became a fitness icon… but now there’s some backlash.

Said Kelly:

"[The media keeps] writing that I'm getting fat, and I'm not–I'm the same size. I work out half an hour a day and just eat what I want and I'm happy, so I don't really care."

Before losing 40 pounds, Kelly took a lot of heat for her weight:

"I took more hell for being fat than I did for being an absolute raging drug addict. I will never understand that."

Neither will we!
