Meryl Streep And Julia Roberts Still Set To Win Every Oscar In 2013 Star In August: Osage County!

meryl and julia to star in august osage county

We're glad to see this is finally going to happen! Been a looooong time coming!

Way back in October 2010, we heard that Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts were in talks to star in a film version of Pulitzer/Tony-award winning play August: Osage County!

For those who haven't seen the play, it revolves around a grieving mother and daughter who mercilessly argue with each other, following the death of the family's patriarch.

Now, Weinstein Company executive David Glasser is saying that the film may start shooting THIS September, in hopes of wrapping production by the end of 2012!

If all goes according to plan, the film will be in Oscar contention during the 2013 awards season…and we have a feeling it'll DESTROY the competition!

What do U think? Are U excited to finally see an August: Osage County film? Do U think Meryl and Julia are right for the roles???

Boo! Weinsteins Ignoring The Fraggle Rock Movie!

fraggle rock movie being ignored by the weinsteins

We wish the Weinsteins would give us the chance to dance our cares away once again!

We were SO excited to report that a Fraggle Rock live-action musical movie was on the way…back in 2008!

Now, several years later, Fraggle Rock: The Movie director Cory Edwards is ready to move forward, but the Weinstein Company has been totally ignoring him!

Here's what Edwards had to say about it on his blog:

Many, many, many of you have repeatedly asked for some kind of update on the Fraggle Rock movie. The truth is, I got nothin’. There’s nothing to report except that The Weinstein Company has everything they need to move forward, and the ball is in their court. They’ve talked about getting a new writer, which I’m willing to do. They’ve talked about starting over from scratch, which I’m willing to do. But I have not heard a peep from their camp in almost a year.

I completely sympathize with all of you that are waiting for a movie, but let’s all remember that the next best thing to making a Fraggle movie is avoiding making a BAD ONE. So at least we’re doing that. Until something new happens to awaken the project from its deep coma, we can at least enjoy the untainted TV series on DVD and The Hub Network. As for me, I’m already working on new things. I hope you’ll stick around and check in here… I’ll be announcing my next project very, very soon.

Obviously the Weinsteins are going to do whatever they want to do, but in our opinion, we'd say they should give this delightful franchise a little bit of time, and maybe let Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft deal with video games….

Just sayin'!

Would U like to see the Fraggle Rock movie finally happen?

Watch Out, Studios! AMC and Regal To Acquire And Distribute Movies

amc and regal to distribute and acquire films

Independent filmmakers, rejoice! Looks like you've just gotten two new, powerful allies.

AMC and Regal are working with Lions Gate/Weinstein Company exec Tom Ortenberg on a new venture that would allow the theater chains to acquire distribution rights to indie films.

They'd still have the option to bring their films to other theater chains and home video markets, but they'd obvi get first dibs on the films.

And no, this doesn't mean that AMC and Regal will ONLY show their movies, but it def means that we might be seeing more indie films get some theatrical love in the near future!

We certainly support any business venture that supports independent film, so we're thinking this could def be a positive thing!

What do U think?

Weinstein Company And Miramax Sign Deal For Sacrilegious Sequels

sequels to classic miramax and weinstein movies are a bad idea

Do you REALLY feel the need to ruin the integrity of these classic/hit films, Miramax and Weinsteins? You're both better than this or so we thought.

The Weinstein Company and Miramax have announced a major partnership to create sequels for classic/hit films that the Weinsteins made with Miramax before they parted ways.

Films that are being prepped for unnecessary sequels include Shakespeare In Love, Bad Santa, Swingers, Rounders, and Bridget Jones's Diary again.

Here's what the Weinsteins said about this deal in a statement:

"We are very close to these films and the new management of Miramax also feels that we are in the best position to create sequels that are at once worthy and compelling in their own right."

If you want to mess with Bad Santa or Rounders…fine…but Shakespeare in Love and Swingers are classics!

…And you should know better than to make ANOTHER sequel to Bridget Jones's Diary. We seriously don't need it.

Thoughts???
