Sylvester Stallone Goes Theatre! Rocky Musical In The Works

rocky musical in the works

Hopefully they can get moving on this quickly, so producers can get going on a Rambo musical next! LOLz!

After hearing that The Weinsteins are adapting basically every movie they ever made into Broadway plays, it sadly doesn't come as a major surprise to us that Sylvester Stallone has assembled a team to put together a musical adaptation of his 1976 Best Picture winner Rocky.

Looks like the Rocky team plans to launch the musical in Germany in fall 2012, and then they're hoping to bring it to Broadway by Spring 2013.

Here's what book writer Thomas Meehan had to say about the project:

"It’s been a long gestation period, but it’s come to be a work that we’re really proud of. There was some worry early on — could we really make a musical out of a boxing picture? Could you make Rocky sing and dance? But when we did the reading, people were very impressed, and we’re going forward."

"At first I thought, all the world needs is a Rocky musical. But then I looked at the film. I thought it had beautiful construction and such high emotion, and it was a natural musical: There is a David and Goliath story, a Cinderella story, a love story between two outcasts. It’s less about boxing than about finding self-respect and finding your soul mate."

Sorry Thomas, but we're skeptical about this one!

While we're completely stretching it with our movie-to-musical adaptations, maybe they should make a Broadway musical version of Pearl Harbor next! At least there's already a song about that movie in Team America. Ha!

Will U go see the Rocky musical when/if it makes its way to Broadway?

The Weinsteins Are Headed To Broadway

weinsteins headed to broadway

Last we heard about the Weinsteins, they were totally giving the shaft to the Fraggle Rock movie.

We thought it was due to their foray into the video game industry, but now it looks like they've got another new venture which could be keeping them quite busy: producing plays for Broadway!

For their first theatre project, the Weinsteins are developing a musical based on 2004's Finding Neverland, which starred Johnny Depp as Peter Pan creator J.M. Barrie.

Other films that Bob and Harvey are looking to bring to Broadway include Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Chocolat, and Cinema Paradiso.

We'll try to be cautiously optimistic about some of these, but it's tough not to be skeptical.

Chocolat and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon were two of the best films that came out in 2000 - treat them with care, boys!

And for the sake of film lovers everywhere who grew up watching Cinema Paradiso, please don't ruin it! The film won the Oscar for best Foreign Language film in 1990, and we know it has a special place in the hearts of lots of people.

Keep that in mind while moving forward, Weinsteins! Thanks!

Would U like to see the Weinsteins adapt some of their classic films into Broadway productions?

Boo! Weinsteins Ignoring The Fraggle Rock Movie!

fraggle rock movie being ignored by the weinsteins

We wish the Weinsteins would give us the chance to dance our cares away once again!

We were SO excited to report that a Fraggle Rock live-action musical movie was on the way…back in 2008!

Now, several years later, Fraggle Rock: The Movie director Cory Edwards is ready to move forward, but the Weinstein Company has been totally ignoring him!

Here's what Edwards had to say about it on his blog:

Many, many, many of you have repeatedly asked for some kind of update on the Fraggle Rock movie. The truth is, I got nothin’. There’s nothing to report except that The Weinstein Company has everything they need to move forward, and the ball is in their court. They’ve talked about getting a new writer, which I’m willing to do. They’ve talked about starting over from scratch, which I’m willing to do. But I have not heard a peep from their camp in almost a year.

I completely sympathize with all of you that are waiting for a movie, but let’s all remember that the next best thing to making a Fraggle movie is avoiding making a BAD ONE. So at least we’re doing that. Until something new happens to awaken the project from its deep coma, we can at least enjoy the untainted TV series on DVD and The Hub Network. As for me, I’m already working on new things. I hope you’ll stick around and check in here… I’ll be announcing my next project very, very soon.

Obviously the Weinsteins are going to do whatever they want to do, but in our opinion, we'd say they should give this delightful franchise a little bit of time, and maybe let Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft deal with video games….

Just sayin'!

Would U like to see the Fraggle Rock movie finally happen?

Horror Director Talks New Hellraiser And Halloween 3-D

horror director talks halloween 3d and hellraiser reboot

After Rob Zombie's unwatchable unimpressive Halloween II, we were NOT excited to hear that another Halloween film was in the works.

Fortunately, it looks like Rob Zombie won't be involved in the upcoming Halloween film, so MAYBE it won't be too bad.

Here's what horror director/Zombie's replacement Patrick Lussier had to say about Halloween 3-D, as well as his upcoming Hellraiser reboot:

"Yeah, well, [we've got] the [H3] script sitting there. We would make that in a hearbeat…[The Weinsteins'] focus has shifted onto Hellraiser, and they obviously want to focus on Scream 4…[their] sort of "slasher mind" is probably very, very focused on that film and the release of that film. So I can't really speak for them, you know?"

"I wish I had more to tell you. I know Todd and I would love to shoot that, love to shoot the script [that was] so much fun to write and delve into that Carpenter world."

Sounds like we've got a ways to go until the next Halloween, but looks like it'll def happen after Hellraiser, unless the Weinsteins decide to focus on Scream 5 by that point instead.

What upcoming horror movies are U excited for?

Lawsuit! Michael Moore Vs. The Weinsteins

michael moore vs the weinsteins

We would NOT be enthusiastic about messing with ANY of these guys!

Michael Moore has filed a lawsuit against the Weinstein Bros, claiming they secretly diverted profits from Faherenheit 9/11, and that they owe him millions of dollars. Yikes!

His company, Westside Productions, claims that based on their deal with the Weinsteins, profits from the film were to be split 50/50. According to Moore's lawyer Larry Stein, the Weinstein Bros used "bogus accounting methods to hide the true amounts due Westside."

Moore is suing Harvey and Bob Weinstein for amounts in excess of $2.7 million.

Hopefully they're able to work this out before things get ugly…although knowing all the parties involved, we won't be shocked if this gets messy sooner than later.

Team Moore or Team Weinsteins?
