Russia's Recently Captured Orcas Won't Go To Sochi After All, But Where They're Going Isn't Much Better!

Russia's killer whales aren\'t going to be on display at Sochi after all!

We previously mentioned that Russian hunters had captured two wild orcas and they were going to be put on display during the Sochi Winter Games.

We also mentioned how freakin' awful that is and how was can't believe people are still treating whales this way.

Hasn't anyone in Russia seen Blackfish!?!

Well, apparently, they have. Or they have a heart at least, because it's reported that the orcas will NOT be on display during the Olympics!!

Hooray! The whales can go free now… right?

WRONG. The orcas were shipped to Moscow and instead of being shuttled over to Sochi, they're going to just stay in Moscow.

Seeing as how Moscow isn't the ocean, we're still not too happy.

Also there's the fact that the aquarium is "still in the process of being built," according to a whale conservationist with some inside knowledge.

We're glad they're not going to the Games but we wish they'd just RELEASE THOSE MAJESTIC CREATURES!

Mexico's Weird, Gross Fish Monster Might Be Extinct!!

Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & TrueEndangeredFishCrazzzzy

Super weird gross fish lizard thing might be extinct!!

Meet the Axolotl.

It’s like a water-breathing, thin skinned salamander that wears a crazy headdress.

Oh and it’s permanently smiling. Super cute, unique, gross and weird all at the same time.

This crazy lizard fish thing calls Lake Xochimilco near Mexico City its home.

In 1998, the Mexican Academy of Sciences found 6,000 axolotls per square kilometer. In 2008, they only found 100.

Now? They haven’t found a single one. They looked for three months.

They’re about to do another three-month survey to try and find if any of these guys are alive in the wild.

We really hope they find some because they’re named after the Xolotl, the Aztec god of death and fire and that’s just so super awesome.

Check out some axolotls doing their thang, aquarium style.

PETA Helps To Rescue 17 Bears From Prison-Like Zoo

PETA helps rescue 17 bears from awful conditions and got them into a good animal sanctuary!

Thanks to PETA, Sam Simon, The Wild Animal Sanctuary, and the Atlanta Humane Society, 17 bears have been rescued from awful conditions!

They were taken away from the concrete pits at the Black Forest Bear Park in Helen, Georgia.

The conditions there looked absolutely unBEARable!

They were stuck in their prison-like environment, forced to beg for scraps from tourists.

Now, they live on 60-acres of green grass at the The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado!

They have their own dens and access to top notch veterinary services!!

Best part? At the zoo, their babies were taken away from them immediately after birth, but at the sanctuary… they get to keep their cubs!!

Check out the video to see this heartwarming story AFTER THE JUMP!!

Lions Cubs Co-Parented By Entire Pride Of Big Cats!

Lion cubs at zoo basel are parented by the entire pride!

Zoo Basel has lion cubs and they're so cute we're about to quit everything and go run away to live in their lion enclosure.

There are four young, male lion cubs running around the zoo because two of the zoo's female lions, Okoa and Uma each gave birth to two cubs.

The babies were born only four days apart. Zoo officials will eventually need to DNA test the cubs and mamas to figure out whose baby is whose.

What's nice to see is that the cubs are all raised together by the females of the pride, just like in the wild.

The cubs' father (just one father) Mbali, has actually stayed in the picture, even though the males are normally removed from the nurturing environment.

He must be a total sweetheart! No danger is posed to his babies.

These lil' cubbies are part of the European Endangered Species Programme and so they're super important to creating sustainable lion populations!

So great, so cute, so totes amazeballs! Go lions, go!!
