Now THIS is how you celebrate your 80th birthday!!

Willie Nelson is both a music and a pot legend around the globe, and he's notorious for his laid back attitude and amazing sense of humor. So when Conan O'Brien asked him to audition for the upcoming Hobbit sequel, there was no way he wasn't going to!

Of course, he's trying for the role of Gandalf, which is perfect, because Willie also thinks Balrogs are a**holes! LOLz!

Ian McKellen (Gandalf himself) doesn't agree, though, with the possible casting — but it's only because Willie is too young for the role! Here's what he said:

Dear Willie, You are far too young to play Gandy.But nice try; have a stoner of a birthday. Love and admiration. Ian

We just recently mentioned that Willie Nelson had to cancel an appearance at a charity concert.

The charity concert was in Denver and Willie was "suffering from breathing problems due to the high altitude and emphysema."

So he was taken to a nearby hospital and treated.

Thankfully he's doing fine now.

His publicist said:

We are so happy to hear that legendary country musician, Willie Nelson, has been given a Planet Defender award for being green (totally not a pot joke, ha!) and for his environmental work!

Willie Nelson wants YOU to buy local produce, in an effort to support U.S. farmers.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Farm Aid, a charity Nelson co-founded with John Mellencamp and Neil Young, the trio hosted a benefit show in Milwaukee. They used stage time to encourage their audience to go local.

Here's what Nelson said to the concertgoers:

"We should be interested in knowing where our food comes from. If it comes from soil that is organic, that is grown by our family farmers, we know that it's more healthy than the food grown by big corporations that saturate the soil with chemicals and pesticides and fertilisers."

"Thank you for those farmers who are doing their part, doing organic farming, and who need our support. That's why we're here, 25 years in a row."

Eating local, healthy produce is certainly a smart, safe bet.

We're right there with you, Willie!
