Yoko Ono Launches 'Imagine There's No Hunger' Campaign

Yoko ono hunger campaign

Imagine how much better of a place the world would be if everyone had enough food.

That's what Yoko Ono, the widow of John Lennon, is doing.

As promised, she officially launched her Imagine There's No Hunger campaign on Tuesday in Times Square of New York City.

The event was kicked off by Yoko's first tweet to promote the movement as she stood alongside the President and CEO of Hard Rock International and the Executive Director of the partnering charity organization, WhyHunger. A moment of silence followed, along with the release of white balloons as a tribute to John and Yoko's first full art exhibition together.

The global campaign, running through the end of 2011, is aiming to fight childhood hunger by raising awareness and money.

Fans can show their support for the cause by either texting the word "IMAGINE" to 50555 to donate directly to WhyHunger or they can purchase the campaign's signature limited-edition bracelet at Hard Rock Cafe's around the world!

Check out more pics of Yoko launching the campaign a a Hard Rock Cafe below!

Ricki Lake Campaigns For Healthy Child Birth Across The World

As a proud mother of two boys, Ricki Lake's heart is very close to the United Nations "Every Woman, Every Child" campaign, which advocates healthy birth options around the world.

Unfortunately, too many lives of both women and children are being lost every year because of inadequate care.

Approximately 350,000 women worldwide lose their lives during pregnancy or child birth, while at least 3.6 million babies are lost within the first 4 weeks of life.

So heart breaking!

Luckily the U.N. is getting into the fight and hopes to save 16 million lives by 2015 with support from governments, businesses, and individuals across the globe.

Check out the video above to hear Ricki champion the cause and visit www.EveryWomanEveryChild.org to get involved!

Malaria Deaths Can Near Zero By 2015

World Health Organizaiton

At least, that's what a report supported by the World Health Organization says.

Advances in medicine and increased funding has already cut malaria deaths in 43 countries by 38%, which is leading researchers to believe that MORE funding could bring deaths down to near zero by the end of 2015.

The WHO said the world can stop malaria deaths by 2015 if massive investment is made to ramp up control measures.

Robert Newman, director of WHO's global malaria programme, said in a statement:

"The results of the past decade exceed what anyone could have predicted and prove that malaria control is working."

Figures from the World Health Organization suggest the number of worldwide malaria deaths dropped to 781,000 in 2009 from nearly a million in 2000.

Whether or not Malaria deaths can actually disappear completely by 2015, it's exciting to hear that there is a definite decline. We hope WHO gets the funding it needs to continue that trend!
