Study Reveals Hungover Surgeons Don't Perform The Best Surgery

Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & TrueAlcoholSurgery

Hungover surgeons

We appreciate the warning, but, uh…duh? Ha!

A study from Yale University suggests that surgeons are more error prone and less efficient following a night of drinking than at other times.

Researchers invited 8 expert surgeons to a dinner party than asked them to drink until they felt blackout drunk intoxicated.

The next day, the surgeons performed a series of open heart surgeries simulated operations via a game of Operation virtual reality program.

Although it may work for most men, alcohol did not give the docs liquid courage on the operating table.

As late as 1 p.m., the surgeons made more errors during the procedure than they did while performing the same operation on the previous day, before drinking.

Even worse, the surgeons didn't even have any detectable BAC level, so we'd just like to ask any surgeons to refrain from drinking the night before! K, thanks!

Check out the video (above) of James Franco talking about his upcoming Oscars hosting gig, as well as his nomination.

The studious actor claimed he wouldn't ditch his class at Yale to comment on his Best Actor nom for 127 Hours at The Today Show in NYC.

Let's just hope there are no lectures going on at Yale during the night of the Oscars, otherwise we might have to find another host.

Fox Searchlight has already committed to the film with hopes that the project will begin development by next Spring.

He's also reportedly writing and directing Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian with Scott Rudin for 2012.

Out of the recent films Franco has been involved with recently, he says this is the film he's the most "attached to."

Could Quidditch Become An NCAA Sport?

Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & TrueSilly!Zportz

student play quidditch sport in real life

Did U know that Quidditch, the broom-based sport from the Harry Potter series, has become a real sport?

Don't believe us? Why don't you ask one of the 60 teams that will gather at De Witt Clinton Park in NYC next weekend for the fourth annual Quidditch World Cup!

The event will be attended by high schools and universities from all over the country, including Harvard, Yale, and Duke.

While many people might be satisfied with the fact that the sport has become a reality, Valerie Fischman, a student from the University of Maryland, wants more!

Fischman has launched a campaign for Quidditch to be recognized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Here's what she had to say about it:

"I think that having NCAA status will give it a little more credibility and help keep it around a little bit longer. I'm hoping that it stays around after the Harry Potter generation leaves college."

Here's what would be necessary to make Quidditch an NCAA sport:

-Official Quidditch clubs must be in at least 50 colleges across the country

-Athletic directors from 50+ colleges must individually petition the NCAA

Fischman will be seeking support from the International Quidditch Association which actually exists.

Looking to bring Quidditch to your school? Check out the official rulebook and spread the word!
