James Franco Talks Oscars, Wouldn't Ditch Class For Noms

Filed under: Film FlickersMedia MinuteAwardzJames FrancoPerezTVEvents

Check out the video (above) of James Franco talking about his upcoming Oscars hosting gig, as well as his nomination.

The studious actor claimed he wouldn't ditch his class at Yale to comment on his Best Actor nom for 127 Hours at The Today Show in NYC.

Let's just hope there are no lectures going on at Yale during the night of the Oscars, otherwise we might have to find another host.

Ha!

James Franco To Direct Adaptation Of Faulkner's As I Lay Dying

Where does this guy find the time??

James Franco's latest project will have him writing the screenplay and directing William Faulkner's literary classic, As I Lay Dying, for the big screen.

Fox Searchlight has already committed to the film with hopes that the project will begin development by next Spring.

He's also reportedly writing and directing Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian with Scott Rudin for 2012.

Out of the recent films Franco has been involved with recently, he says this is the film he's the most "attached to."

AND he will be doing all of these projects while still attending classes at Yale University and the Rhode Island School of Design.

Unbelievable!

Could Quidditch Become An NCAA Sport?

Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & TrueSilly!Zportz

student play quidditch sport in real life

Did U know that Quidditch, the broom-based sport from the Harry Potter series, has become a real sport?

Don't believe us? Why don't you ask one of the 60 teams that will gather at De Witt Clinton Park in NYC next weekend for the fourth annual Quidditch World Cup!

The event will be attended by high schools and universities from all over the country, including Harvard, Yale, and Duke.

While many people might be satisfied with the fact that the sport has become a reality, Valerie Fischman, a student from the University of Maryland, wants more!

Fischman has launched a campaign for Quidditch to be recognized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

Here's what she had to say about it:

"I think that having NCAA status will give it a little more credibility and help keep it around a little bit longer. I'm hoping that it stays around after the Harry Potter generation leaves college."

Here's what would be necessary to make Quidditch an NCAA sport:

-Official Quidditch clubs must be in at least 50 colleges across the country

-Athletic directors from 50+ colleges must individually petition the NCAA

Fischman will be seeking support from the International Quidditch Association which actually exists.

Looking to bring Quidditch to your school? Check out the official rulebook and spread the word!

Shut Down! Yale Doesn't Want Franco To Teach!

How embarrassing!

Over the week, James Franco, who is currently enrolled as a Ph.D student at Yale, claimed on Good Morning America that he would be teaching a course over the next semester, which made us wonder if the seksi actor really could do just about anything!

Well, apparently not, because Yale's English Department Chair Michael Warner has come forward to let the world know that Franco was speaking a little too soon!

He reveals:

"As a grad student in our program, he would not ordinarily teach until his third year. [Franco] was referring to another project: a proposal for a college seminar that did not work out for this year."

Oopsie!

Guess they weren't interested in the How To Get Stoned And Play The Green Goblin seminar, bb!

Maybe next year! LOLs!

Get this man a bulldog sweatshirt, he's a Yale man now!

Coming to the end of his time at Columbia in New York means that James Franco had to start thinking about which school he would like to sleep his way through to get a PhD. His first choice - Yale University and according to their rag newspaper, he's taken the pineapple express right to their front door and pulling into their English department!

How prestigious! Plus, we bet the chairs in the lecture halls are ideal for nap time!

Congrats, James!
